Finally! Whew. Bernard DeVoto is one of my favorite writers. He had a long career as a writer, teacher, critic, and columnist. Minority Report is a collection of his column, The Easy Chair, from Harpers and Saturday Review magazines, dating from the later 30s. This breaks the book up into readable parts, but also allows it to be put down for later, hence, a six month read. Some of it is humorous, sad, poignant, folksy, arrogant, and condescending. He wields words like a scalpel to slice through the pretense of various commentators on the issues of the day. The issues may be passe, but his insightfulness makes up for it. I liked it, but in no way, shape or form, can I recommend it.
