The Dark Days
It was black as night in Kyle’s yard. Charlie’s eyes shift to her watch. Five minutes past two—in the afternoon.
CNN news reports confirm the darkness is worldwide. Following the recent pandemic Nogoes, Charlie Kensal grieves the loss of her parents while visiting her brother near Valley City, North Dakota. She has always listened to her brother, even when it came to who she married. But, when her husband’s arrested, Charlie escapes the isolated farm with neighboring cattle rancher Nick Miller during a riot. The cause of the darkness is unknown, and the temperature drops drastically. When Charlie finds her husband at the National Guard Armory with other survivors, she leaves with him. Charlie’s brother shows up unexpectedly, and she worries his family is lost to the plague. She wonders if she made the right choice leaving Nick to the darkness.
