Unchain My Heart: A Sapphic Fantasy Romance in Classical Greece
Kyra the Bard has given up on love. Zoe the Amazon doesn’t believe in it. It will take a powerful magic to convince either of them to try love again.
When Zoe learns her sister isn’t in their homeland but instead marrying an Athenian, she leaves her comfortable new life in Egypt to confront her. What should be a simple journey across the Sea is complicated by a sudden storm, a villainous mutiny, and a monstrous ex-lover.
Kyra would have been just another fling on Zoe’s way to Athens, but the gods know better, and ensure they're bound together until they realize they can help each other heal old wounds.
A slow-burn lesbian romance set in Classical Greece.

This is just a fast-paced story, in a similar vein to that old TV Show Xena, where we have an Amazon Warrior woman, who loves bedding women, and women love bedding her, she's got that rogueish nature - but there's not real 'love' in her life, apart from her best friend Faye, who is like a sister and has a backstory as a former slave.
When our Amazon Princess named Zoe, finds herself magically manacled to a quote 'Nubian Bard' (I cringe at her constantly being called Nubian) named Kyra - the Gods might just be involved in causing this situation where they are tethered by magic. But Zoe desperately needs to get to Athens to save her sister, so Kyra has to come along for the ride, in a very agreeable fashion. That's something that annoyed me a lot, Kyra had very little agency, and seemed pussy-struck by Zoe, in the worst way... somewhat so did the best friend Faye, who felt like a doormat. It was all about Zoe, all the time, and she wasn't particularly likable or deep - which I get was kind of the point for her character, but I didn't feel we got much real growth from her, at all.
Along the way we meet bandits, have high sea disasters and adventures, even meeting a Gorgon.
The problem is it struggles between trying to be serious and heartfelt in some moments, along with the humorous light-hearted action-adventure, so it's just not enough to be taken seriously, and a little too campy to be fully humorous, either. The cringe was real, a fair few times.
It's not bad in any way, just a bit of a lack of depth and emotion, to me. A quick fun romp, though, with a lot of sexual energy oozing from the women, but not much in the payoff. IMHO. Not a lot of real insight into the characters of any particular growth, in my mind. I guess I just wanted more.

This was a fun story. I really loved the connection between Zoe and Kyra. It didn’t feel forced at all. I only wish that the story was longer and more in depth because what we were given was already so great!
