Her latest book, Love and War in ’44, is based on interviews with 90-year olds, members of the Greatest Generation. It recalls high school courtships interrupted by World War II, war stories, and homecomings as adults who become builders of families, institutions, and communities. The interviews are built on deep personal knowledge of the interviewees based on over fifty years of co-membership in the Presbyterian Church of Shorewood, Wisconsin. The book is a social and cultural history from the American heartland, told by the veterans who went overseas, and their partners keeping the home front.
