On the Shores of Endless Worlds by Andrew Tomas is a personal essay looking first briefly at the evolution of the cosmos, then man, and then looking at some of the theories of where these evolutions may end. It provides interesting speculation (although many of the insights have been presented in other works), lots of examples, some interesting illustrations from foreign places (he tries to connect the views of various religions with similarities to show they all discuss in their own various ways a real event(s) that actually happened in the distant past. He definitely believes that their are many other places in the universe that have also developed conscious life with some probably more advanced than ours. He also believes that these other civilizations came to earth in the distant past and "seeded" intelligence in our evolution; he compares these spacecratures to the gods our ancestors have described in the various religions. He believes our sun had another planet that was destroyed and is now our astroid belt--possibly through their own ignorance (nuclear bomb themselves, wipe out their own planet someway). He believes these outer space creatures left us information and instructions which are hidden and were preserved by "holy" men of various religions to be revealed when we are evolved enough to use the information--even though we now have not found it. He believes that it is likely we will eventually join with other civilizations in space and have a beautiful more fulfilling life. It is an interesting collection of ideas, put together in one small volumn for the reader to ponder and speculate on his own. I myself came up with two ideas. One: in our expanding universe it may have been easier to travel to and from earth to their home worlds than it is now even if their means of travel is far faster than we can conceive--that doesn't mean it is instantaneous, and the distances may be now too great even for their means of locomotion. Two: Maybe our "climate change" will be one of the forces to change in quick order (evolution went by long stretches and quick spurts) our own evolution, and rather than doom us, will rejuvinate us to become the next evolutionary development after homo sapiens. Nothing great, but a good starter to refresh one's memory of many other speculations one may have read. Short and fairly interesting with good examples to enliven it.
