When four drovers stumble upon the bloody aftermath of a stagecoach robbery, they discover a hidden cache of money belonging to the most powerful man in the county . Briefly tempted to fill their saddlebags and run, they decide to do the right thing and return the cash. And that task may not be as easy as it sounds.
Buckshot Parks, the outlaw responsible for the robbery, is dead-set on getting back his money, and he has a stolen badge to hide behind while he tracks the “thieves.”
But there’s a real lawman on Buckshot's trail—Arizona Ranger Sam Burrack. With his shotgun-toting partner, Maria, he’s determined to catch the outlaw and get to the drovers before they meet with serious harm for doing good.
Another great fast moving no nonsense Arizona Ranger Sam Burrack and his partner Maria are on the trail of one "Buckshot Parks"a killer who ran with the infamous "James Gang.". Another great Ralph Cotton western adventure that everyone will enjoy. On the trail with "The Ranger" and his partner Maria, can't understand why the Arizona Rangers won't hire or employ Maria as a Arizona Ranger or a Tracker, I guess this might happen in another adventure.
Again I have read a book by Ralph Cotton and again I really enjoyed it. In every story he makes you feel like your in the saddle. I look forward to the next one..
One of the first recently published westerns I've read in quite some time, this is a decent if fairly unsurprising story. A small group of recently unemployed cowboys happen across the aftermath of a failed stagecoach robbery. Everyone, it seems, was killed in the fray, good and bad alike. Afraid of being incriminated in the crime but determined to do the right thing, the cowboys take the money they find and head for the nearest officer of law. But it was no ordinary stagecoach robbery and not everyone involved died. The action deepens when the cowboys run headlong into corruption, gunplay, and a merciless killer who dogs their trail. A pretty typical western plot with a few more interesting facets that made for a simple, pleasant read.
A stagecoach robbery gone terribly wrong. One outlaw remains to tell the story. Four cowboys, hearing the shooting, come upon the bloody scene. A hidden storage compartment containing stacks of money is found within the wreckage of the stagecoach. The cowboys want to report the robbery and turn in the money, but they're afraid of what folks may think. They decide to do the right thing anyway, put their faith in the law, collect all the evidence, and head towards the nearest town. The surviving outlaw is not far behind. Our favorite Arizona Ranger Sam Burrack joins in the chase. He must discover the truth, track down the guilty, and protect the innocent cowboys from being falsely accused of the crime. Good fast-paced story, great characters, plenty of action.
This was not a very entertaining or well-written book. I don't think I'm too into the genre, and actually like western films more than their novel equivalents. They are fairly pointless and boring in general, although this one did have a cool stagecoach chase. Not for me.
