A brief history of Sir Francis Drake's illustrious career. His first voyages to the Spanish Main resulted in lots of plunder and one wonders if he was really an unofficial pirate. His later voyages were authorised by Queen Elizabeth I and produced much more plunder, officially on those occasions! In The Golden Hinde he landed at Nova Albion on the coast of California on his way home from circumnavigating the world. He later, was famous for singeing the King of Spain's beard in Cadiz and then, nore famously, fought and defeated the Spanish Armada. Knighted by his Queen, he made his last expedition to the Caribbean in 1595 but died on board the Defiance on 28 January 1896 and was buried at sea off Puerto Bello.
A most informative read and a good insight into one of the great Elizabethans.
