MacNutt is experienced and balanced in this phenomenon that has puzzled me in the past. The "slain in the Spirit" effect still does puzzle me, in fact, but less so after reading MacNutt's reflections after decades of experiencing it (unsought) in his own ministry. I also appreciated his comparison of the contemporary effect with both the Catholic ecstasy tradition and the Protestant revival tradition. Though they aren't 100% identical, some of the similarities are striking.
I read this book without expectations, simply because of the title and because it was in my library. What a delightful surprise it has been as I found great insight into the ministry of the Spirit. Not a new book and yet far from dated. Simply written, simply presented but wonderfully revealing.
