I finished this in class, kind of. My teacher had typed up her own translation to make sense of this and she only included the important scenes. With that said, there was still a lot to read and I borrowed a friend's printed out version of the story to read. In truth, I skimmed the whole translation.
The narrative of the Trojan war and Achilles' upbringing was presented in a poetic format. It was interesting to read, especially after I still remember the details of 'The Song of Achilles'. However, this was like reading a very patriotic version of the story, wherein which every character was extremely selfish and lived on their sense of entitlement.
I think my reason for enjoying this text was simply because I was already familiar with the original storyline and mocked the sexist undertones included. And since I read this in class and had to discuss it, I would not shut up and kept answering all the questions. It was the first time I sounded smart in class and got praised for it. I left the room with an inflated ego and sense of pride.
Honestly, I have nothing more to say for this book. I was not focusing much on the book or the way language was used, but on the plot that I already knew plenty of. So, this review does seem awfully summarised and much like I am rambling about my own intellect.
