Gifford, Clive.(2002). 1000 years of famous people. London: Kingfisher.

Citation created by: Sherry Bouldin
Call Number: 920
Description: A collection of biographies that are organized into 10 thematic chapters.
Content/scope: Entries are around 100 words or less, so students in grades 4 and up will be comfortable with the text. There is a Western focus.
Accuracy/Authority: This title is published by Kingfisher which is known for other reputable publications.
Arrangement/Presentation: Full color illustrations and photographs accompany entries. An index is also provided in the book.
Relation to Similar Works: Kingfisher publishes many titles that are present in our school libraries and classrooms.
Timeliness/Permanence: This book is already 10 years old as it was published in 2002. However, when you’re discussing 1000 year’s worth of famous people, 10 years doesn’t seem like that long.
Cost: $22.45
Rationale for Selection: This would be a great resource for our older students when trying to select a famous person for various assignments that occur in our school. Specifically, I’m thinking of our 4th grade Wax Museum and 5th grade speech assignments.

Talkin' 'bout a brief encyclopedia of people. I was in the fourth or fifth grade when my Dad bought this, and I thought it's really interesting 'cause I always read it; it conveniently feeds my interest with people from different walks of life. Great images as well.

Helpful in identifying person and finding out a little bit about them. There is only a paragraph or so on each, but it serves as a good starting point.
