Yet this book has been ovelaped by other posterior books as the Sddhartas or Johnsons has the value that i think is one of the first about smart drugs and targeted treatment.

Nathan former director of Dana Farber Institute uses in this book three examples of patients each one with one of the main branches of the cancer disease: leukemia, carcinoma and sarcoma.
In each case he foccuses i the best treatment an weapons fitted in arround 2000 year (i think the book is not relevantly dated as no major advances has been made) that in general are :prevention, screeing, surgery, radiotherapy, clasic chemotherapy (carpet bombing as he says ) and smart targeted drugs, targeted to protein kinases derived from mutant genes and involved in biochemical signals and pathways that or forced the cell to perpetual grow and divission or avoid programed death of the cell with damaged DNA.

As usually he underlines the problem of resistance to classic and smart drugs by that is of necessity to find new geerations of smsrt drugs and try to make of cancer a cronic disease.
As examples of smart drugs he makes a brief description ,uses and histhory os some smart drugs as Herceptin,Gleevec or Tarceva.

Finally he makes mention of the posibility of cancers related to the protin generated changes in the epigenome, epigenomic cancers, and the promisig field of using the immune system in controlin cancer.

A valuable, interesting, with some new data not avaliable in other books ,book on the subject
