Finch Carmody was totally wrong for her!

A rugged homesteader from the Australian high country, Finch exuded too much raw masculinity for Blythe's taste. Comfortable, calm Nathan was more her type.

Unfortunately, though Nathan wanted her, he didn't want her recently orphaned nephew, Lief, whom she had raised on her own. Nathan persuaded a reluctant Blythe to foist the boy on his supposed father, Finch.

Although he was not the father, Finch nevertheless agreed to take the child-to get him away from Nathan. But Finch's challenging manner disconcerted Blythe, sending sparks down her spine . . . and his proposed living arrangements unnerved her even more!

Kerry Allyne was born in England, UK. Her early childhood was uneventful, she remembered, until her father came home one day and began talking about emigrating to Australia. When they eventually arrived in Australia, Kerry took to her new land with a passion. During the family's first years "down under," she explored as much of the country as she could, journeying northward into Queensland and out onto the Great Barrier Reef, and sometimes south through New South Wales into Victoria. As a adult she returned to England for a short time. A long working holiday enabled her to travel the world before returning to Australia where she met her engineer husband-to-be, and they had a couple of children. The family eventually moved to a rural area and she started to write. She used the people and countryside as inspiration for her romances. She was published by Mills & Boon from 1976 to 1994.

Meh...and I can’t even understand the relationship between the main characters 🙄

The book started well. The heroine is in a dilemma. Her sister has just passed away leaving her son orphaned. The heroine loves the nephew like her own child since, the sister, a single mother, and somewhat irresponsible, has often left him in the heroine’s care.

The heroine has a boyfriend, who so obviously does not want to get saddled with someone else’s son. He manages to convince the heroine to go look for the boy’s father and ask for some support. Although it’s clear he would like to completely separate the heroine from her nephew, and thus relieve her of all responsibility.

They look for the father, but as it turns out he has also passed away. Instead, they find the boy’s uncle. The uncle (H) is more than open to meeting the boy and he seems immediately attracted to the heroine. They agree that the boy should come for a few weeks vacation to introduce him to his relatives. The heroine is to come as well to facilitate the nephew’s adjustment. The boyfriend is not too happy with this arrangement but he goes along w it since he anticipates that the heroine would be more amenable to leaving the nephew if he is happy with his relatives.

The heroine brings the child to the Hero and they stay with him. After the first day, the little boy seems to be happily adjusting to farm life....and this is where the story goes downhill... suddenly it’s two weeks later!! The heroine is sad her vacation is almost coming to an end, plus she doesn’t want to leave her beloved nephew.. No explanation of what transpired during those two weeks, how the relationship between the main characters developed or anything...

But anyway, though the nephew is happy, he makes it clear he doesn’t want to stay without the heroine. The Hero’s solution, of course, is to get married. Although he makes it clear that he would like children of his own. After a little convincing the heroine accepts his proposal but also makes it clear she is only marrying him for the nephew’s sake. She goes home to pack, ditches the boyfriend, who was not too happy, then SUDDENLY it’s a month later and it’s the wedding? What?! Once more, the reader doesn’t get to see any relationship develop!😣

It’s the wedding night. The heroine tries to resist her husband’s amorous intentions by reminding him that she only married him for her nephew, and throwing her ex-boyfriend’s name in his face! She agreed to the marriage, why suddenly turn into a bitch?! But the husband manages to seduce her anyway so they have their night of love. She turns bitchy again the next morning.

Several weeks pass AGAIN! This time the husband is going out of town and while he is away, the ex asks the heroine to meet up with him to talk about old times. Yeah right! The idiot heroine meets up with him, since she considers him a friend. Of course she gets caught by the husband just as the ex tries to kiss her. The Hero gets into a jealous rage and there is some rough loving when they get home.

Then... you can all guess by now, some more weeks pass...OMG this whole relationship is left up to our imagination...

So anyway... they resolve their issues.. the Hero has loved her from the start, even if she turned into a bitch, but maybe in between she was loving and charming to make up for it, but we, as readers will never really know!

The end. 😤

Blythe has raised her nephew for most of his young life. When his neglectful mother dies, she is faced with a resentful boyfriend who does not want anything to do with another man's bastard. In her search for the little boy's father, she finds the family his family and even though he is dead, Finch wants to raise his brother's child. He also wants Blythe for himself.

A good story that could have been better without all the typos in the story that were a very distracting nuisance.
