Blood & Lust: The Insignificant Life of Rick Blume

Rate this book
Blood and The Insignificant Life of Rick Blume is not what it initially seems. Rick Blume is a thirty-six-year-old man, lazy and bored with his life in New York. He's never had a girlfriend, or any kind of excitement in his life, and is tired of working at his boring job as a Junior Sales Representative at a soda pop company. However, all that is about to change when he meets Lizzie, the most beautiful woman he has ever seen, who is hiding a life-changing secret. Will he have a chance with her? Or will he be destroyed by the powers of which he knows dangerously little? Perhaps Rick Blume's life will be proved to be not nearly as insignificant as he once thought... Blood and The Insignificant Life of Rick Blume is an unusual tale of the supernatural world that lies just beyond our reach.

A Sensual, Witty Supernatural Thrill Ride

I can’t help myself. Whenever I’m captivated by a story like the one presented by Craig Abbott’s ‘Blood and Lust: The Insignificant Life of Rick Blume’, it’s hard not to visualize how I would cast it in the movies. If I was making this movie, say.. thirty years ago, I could see Rick Moranis or Jim Carey playing our hero.

Favorite line: “The four of us - a powerful witch, a latent werewolf, an undead employer, and a guy with a bump on his head were on our way to Paul's Cafe. I could tell that life would be different for me from now on.”

My absolute enchantment with this story that places the mundane, thirty-six-year-old virgin, Rick Blume at the center of a group of supernatural beings, is the blend of dark horror and erotic adventure with the absolutely witty, and often ‘laugh out loud’ inner thoughts of our main protagonist. Rick is a soda salesman with a lonesome life, devoid of much excitement – with the exception of his overly horny boss who, despite his involuntary celibate existence, comes up short when she tried to seduce him.

However, Rick has a strong adherence to workplace ethics. Instead, he’s drawn toward a sultry, beautiful vampire who becomes the object of his mortal obsessions. The lustful, seductive Lizzy has an interesting code of vampire ethics as well.

Needless to say, Rick Blume gets… sucked in.. to Lizzy's world, in addition to a collection of supernaturals who all enjoy hanging out at Paul’s café- featuring Werewolves who practice anger management techniques, and witches who make French toast. After all.. everybody, living or dead and everything in between… needs a good cup of coffee.

You will have fun with this story with a triad of elements, fantasy horror, erotic passions, and illustrative humor that brings the characters right off the pages and onto the screens of your imagination. It’s an engaging adventure that will provide you with all the breathless euphoria from the fantasy-horror and sensual passages and a variety of smiles as you journey forward with the comedic commentary of Rick Blume’s narrative.

Oh.. and the finale? A bad-ass battle that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

A well deserved 5-stars and I anticipate the release of the sequel!

The Insignificant Life of Rick Blume is the first novel in the series Blood & Lust. The description of the book tells you pretty much what the book is about, so I won’t touch on that, nor will I include spoilers (I hate reviews that give the book away, and as such, avoid them). But what I can add is that this book is well written and nicely paced. Pretty sure Paul (the owner of the café) is my favorite character at this point. I don’t normally read erotica, but that aside, I do like the characters and enjoy the story. The ending definitely leaves with you wondering what will come next … It does end with a sort-of cliffhanger, at least enough curiosity that leaves you wanting to continue the story, like most season finales of television shows. Definitely look forward to reading the next installment and discovering what’s in store for these characters. If you’re a fan of paranormal romance, vampires, and werewolves, you should definitely consider adding this book to your list, even if erotica isn’t your usual read. If it is, then that’s a bonus, and this is 100% up your alley.

Craig has a great storyline with his first novel. I breezed through the book in 3 days needing to know what was going to happen. I always enjoy when I book crosses genres and I felt this one did. Clearly a paranormal romance it has really light moments crossing into the romantic comedy genre.

Craig is definitely a talented storyteller and I look forward to book 2. My reason for only 3 stars is he occasionally gets repetitive and the story got a little campy at times. This didn’t detract from the storyline though so I’d certainly recommend!

Lust is correct 😂 unfortunately a man lusting over a woman to suck his dick every chapter, before he’s ever met her mind you, simply because she’s gorgeous with a nice rack hits a little to close to reality for me 😅

Also “womanhood”? Please never use this word again. And “fill her with my love” 🤢

It is funny & entertaining though. So if you’re looking for a funny, easy, supernatural read, this one is a good choice. Don’t let my own icks dissuade you.

A good supernatural read

This title was true to the story. Blood & Lust definitely were what this novel was composed of but what else could you expect in a vampire tale. I was rooting for Rick throughout and often times laughed at his internal monologues. I would read more from this author for sure!

Captivating

Blood and Lust was captivating from start to finish. In my opinion, Rick Blume’s life was anything but insignificant and I genuinely can’t wait to find out what happens next.
