This is truly an interesting collection of stories and really there isn't one actual shelf for it since it mixes the Classic fables with fairytales the throws in a bit of mythoi and folklore to serve to your child. The only thing is that these stories have been changed and cleaned up a bit so they aren't like the ones that you were originally raised on but it doesn't take away from it.

This is one book that you won't be wanting to read in one sitting as a bedtime story book since that would be too long. Instead I would suggest allowing the child to pick a story to read or to randomly choose one yourself. And since this is more suited to those who are just starting to read chapter books instead of you reading them the child may read them just before lights off unless you have a child that doesn't mind you around for story time.

The pictures are whimsical. There is a bit of a cartoonish mix to them but at the same time there is also a reality to them so they are evenly balanced. What could cause some children to turn away from the pictures is they are a bit on the small side even when stretched over the bottom and they aren't in color so again this may not be a good book for the much younger audience who like books they can flip pages to stare at the pictures.

Definitely an interesting bedtime mix while it may lead to further interest in other similar type of stories as the child gets older.

This is my first book in English, for a long time I wanted to start to read in English, but I didn't know with which book to start. So I decided to begin with a book of children's stories. I knew many stories from this book, so it was a little easier to read it. With this book I remembered my chilhood, the Tales of the brothers grimm especially, because my sister and I watched a television program about the tales of the Brothers Grimm in the morning weekends. If someone want to start to read in English, I recommend you start with a book of children's stories.

Four stars for the diversity of story backgrounds, though there are others that could have been included. Three stars for the adaptations. I understand wanting to make some of them more kid friendly, but some of the changes were going unnecessary or even in opposition of the original stories. Still enjoyable to read, so I’ll leave it four stars rather than 3.
