A beautiful story of two women, whose unlikely friendship leads to a journey of a lifetime across the world. Peggy has a charming way of storytelling that captured me and fired up my imagination! I was right there alongside her, riding the bus, feeling my anxiety level rise as the unknown lay before us, yet the excitement overpowering the fears. The inspiring joy of keeping her word and using the profits of her books to provide scholarships is praiseworthy.

I actually got this book from the UEA (Utah Education Association) fair where the author had a booth and handed me her two books and a dvd for free. I didn't realize what I was getting at the time but since I was given them and heard the books were about a woman who does humanitarian work in Zambia, Africa I was intrigued. What made me more interested is that I have a friend whose son is currently serving an LDS mission in Lusaka, Zambia. I decided to read the books first before giving them to my friend. I wouldn't say they are the most well-written books of all time and found several typos (I know I'm picky picky! but I was so fascinated with life in this part of the world that I knew so little about. I couldn't put the books down and finished them both in a matter of a few days. (The other book is called Foreign Flowers: An African Journey and I liked it better than this one.)

I would definitely recommend this book and her other one to anyone who is interested in learning about other cultures and life in other parts of the world.

Reads like a personal travel journal; did this, did that. BUT, it's a touching story, written to help an African man who pleaded with the author to help him afford his dream of going to a University. It will be interesting to follow up & see if the goal was reached. Teaches the difference one courageous voice can make. Helps one appreciate all that they have, learn to work hard and live on less. Enjoy reading about a different country & culture!

My grandma gave me this book for Christmas, and I read it just to see what it was about. I loved it! It's about a little white girl from the US and a little black girl from Africa and their uncanny friendship. It's a travelog of sorts, when the white woman takes to Africa to visit her dear friend, and all the new things that she experiences. Amazing.

The story was more than mildly interesting (but not fascinating); the grammar was a bit painful, and the writing wasn't impressive.
