Invitation Slip up is an exciting tale of Oliver, a clownfish, who does not receive an invitation to Sally the seahorse s birthday party. Through this story Oliver finds out that things are not always as they appear and miscommunications can occur between anyone, even good friends.
Great teaching tool on peer pressure! A great book for children to learn what cruel social behaviors and peer pressure look like, and how children can stand up for themselves and others if they see this kind of behavior. This story follows Oliver and a few of his classmates as a new student, Dolly, starts school. One students tells the others that Dolly “looks funny” and no one would want to play with someone like that. This causes Oliver and others to ignore and exclude Dolly. Through prayer, Oliver and Dolly both find strength to address the situation and they all find a way to move forward and become friends.
The discussion questions at the end, as well as information about peer pressure and fun dolphin facts make this a great resource for parents and teachers! I highly recommend this book to to discuss this important topic!
Stephanie Guzman works in the school system and understands how to integrate lesson plans, activities, and children's books. Her "Oliver the Clownfish" books each address a "problem" young children face, and offer solutions. Her website and the teaching/lesson plan info there make this a useful book for home-schoolers.
Stephanie Guzman's "Oliver the Clownfish" series is entertaining and educational. In this book, Oliver is disappointed that he did not receive an invitation to a birthday party. As his friend points out, sometimes someone can't invite everyone that they want to. But Oliver was convinced that he and the Birthday girl are close friends and feels upset that he must have been wrong. When he finally speaks up, Sally tells him that he had been invited and she discovers that the invitation had fallen. The book teaches kids to speak up about situations that make them upset and also shows that slip ups can happen- slights are not always intentional. Each of the authors books have a forward with a note to parents about handeling the problem addressed in the book. It also contains information about an animal, in this case a clownfish. It also has an afterward with several fun story related activities as well as comprehension questions.
I highly recommend this series for home or the classroom.
