The book is beginning to show its age...but it is still a great read and Meghin's retelling of Paulus Diaconus is entertaining and instructive. There is a lot of material, that deals with non-Langobardic material (e.g. Alans, Bajuwari and Alamanni) and more could have been made of the Italian evidence. Combine it with Neil Christie's Lombards and you have a great set.
