Aminata and her younger brother, Sochima, are gifted children living in Washington, DC with their mother and their grandmother, Nana. Amaris is a troubled young girl who was once Aminata’s best friend but now bullies her. Fate brings all three children together when, in a dream, Nana is brought before the Egyptian Goddess Auset and tasked with recovering the fourteen pieces of the God Ausar, who had been killed by his brother Set.
After Nana falls battling a dark angel, the responsibility to recover Ausar’s soul falls to the children. Sochima, Aminata and Amaris are transported through time, from one ancient civilization to another. They are in a race to find the fourteen pieces of Ausar before Apep, the God of chaos and destruction, awakens, learning the mysteries of The First People in the process.
So I was riding the 2 train home after work one day and this man gets in the car and starts making an announcement. And I'm like "ugh here we go..."
Anyway, this dude announces that he's written a book and proceeds to describe a kind of wacko plot...
...so obviously I bought his book.
He was kind enough to sign it for me and everything.
Turns out the book was pretty good! But it ended on a cliffhanger so I guess I won't know how the story ends unless I see Mr. Ptah on the subway again.
This book was amazing! From mythological influences to incorporating the science of time travel— Heru keeps you on the edge of your seat.
The 3 children are wonderfully written characters with their own dynamics and growth throughout the novel. Heru writes with love, curiosity, and provokes the question of “good and evil”. I cannot wait for the second book!
Some parts of the book could have been written differently to assist flow of the content, but it does NOT take away from the story itself! Wonderful imagery and context is incorporated to make this anyone’s favorite historical/magical fiction Novel.
Personally, this was a great example of not judging a book by its cover. I really enjoyed this book. It was written with enough detail to create the scene for the reader, and it didn’t drag out unnecessarily. If there is a part 2 I can’t wait to read it.
So I thought I’ll be doing a favor by helping a new author on their journey to “New York Times Best Sellers List.” However, the book was actually super good with an ambitious plot that spans time and cultures.
Although I thought the scenes skipped too quickly and had less vividness than I would like but overall appreciated the book. Can’t wait to see Ami, Amaris, and Sochima go to other cultures and civilizations. I’d appreciate some eastern civilizations too (maybe Japan due to its relationship with the sun).
But unlike other people, I couldn’t get my name signed on the book because the train was leaving and I had to jump out. But if I see Mr. Ptah ever again, I’d want my copy of the book signed!
Two children, empowered by their grandmother, and a friend, travel back in time to different eras of ancient history to retrieve parts of a supernatural being to bring balance back to the Earth. In these travels are revealed ancient civilizations, a great history lesson for kids, while the protagonists are on an adventure.
What a cliffhanger!! I can’t wait to find out what happens next. I loved the descriptive imagery throughout the entire book, I would love to see this turned into a movie… the movie would go CRAZY! I’m very happy I bought this book from Mr. Ptah himself on the train :))) Looking forward to part 2! Congrats! 🙏🏾
This book totally exceeded my expectations. The author sold it to me directly on the subway! He squeezed so much amazing history into this novel. It's YA fantasy and once you get into it, it's super gripping!!! Highly recommend for teens and adults!
After I bought this book from the author himself on the NYC subway (which he also signed) I was sucked into the world and story of these 3 children. There is so much history in this book and I loved how it was written.
