A husband survives an autopsy and his wife has a complaint, a woman experiences existential dread after a police interrogation, twin sisters find the instrument of their father’s ongoing death, and a contestant at a hot dog eating contest won’t stop eating no matter what is in front of him. Also, poems about the withering and revival of love thought to be lost and angels with strange motives—this is a book that will make every reader laugh, cry, and hide every part of their body beneath the covers. This is Rice at his absolute best...and at his earliest; the oldest story taken from an 8th grade class assignment from over 30 years ago.
This is the first set of short horror stories that I have read. I was expecting that there would be some hits and some misses, and this collection met my expectations. There were a few stories that I thought were underwhelming, some that confused me, and some that were genuinely spooky! A lot of the stories felt like black mirror episodes and I really enjoyed that vibe from the collection. If you're in search of a quick read, this is a great option!
An excellent collection of short stories and poems. I enjoyed all of them and like how the author wrote where the ideas for stories came from or when they were written. Will definitely check out more by this author.
I have been reading this book off and on here and there. Some of the stories keep me in suspense and others, well I have no words for those. I am left knowing the author is very creative. I just reviewed Absolute Garbage, Total Nonsense, and Utter Ridiculousness by Gerald Dean Rice. #AbsoluteGarbageTotalNonsenseandUtterRidiclousness #NetGalley
