Returning to Freeze-Out after an extended trip, Dick Ramage notices many changes--a fire on the outskrits of town had destroyed many of the buildings; an unexplained hostiliy on the part of the liver barn owner to whom he entrusted his mount; the failure of former friends even to recognise him. Indeed they seemed to think that he was a thief and a killer. This was not surprising in view of the fact that they remembered Dick as a redhead, and in addition were convinced he was reposing peacefully in Boot Hill!
