Peter finds a cut red stone in his great aunt's house and imagines it might be an old lost ruby. He takes the stone to an antiques shop where they offer to keep it till the expert arrives. But something makes Peter uneasy, and refusing to leave it he sets off across Exmoor to see the expert.
