This is a serious delving into Norse mythology, the origin of numerous Pagan religions and sects based on the Norse Gods and and various rites, beliefs, Norse holidays. A LOT of information.
I was familiar with much of Norse mythology, a lot of it from Marvel comics, but also read some other material when I was younger. The author gives a thorough description of the Gods, their origins, points out things that are different from some of the common stories.
Well worth the read if you're interested in some Scandinavian history, Norse Mythology or Paganism.

Guide To Norse Paganism by Emma Karlsson contains a lengthy amount of historical folklore and ancient legends about the Norse Gods, what they personify, how they interact with one another, and how they affect human lives. There is another level to the book, soliciting the audience to follow the Norse Paganism belief system. Many times, the book reads like a pamphlet to persuade potential followers of the belief system, outweighing the historical significance provided in the tome.

Karlsson offers a copious amount of information about Norse Myths, propagated by the Viking culture. Her remarks and comments give readers a deeper understanding of the legends. It's a lot of information to absorb and process, demanding that readers go over paragraphs several times to grasp the full impact of the messages Karlsson is conveying. The author not only discusses the Norse Gods but also the people who transported the belief system outside of Scandinavia, across Europe, Greenland, Iceland, America, and New Zealand. One has to question if perhaps Norse Paganism is Scandinavia's most valuable export.

It is helpful to have some background information about Norse Gods before delving into Karlsson's book whether it is from other books or movies. The author writes expecting the reader to know something about Norse Gods, making it an intermediate level of read on the subject. For some readers, the belief system might offer answers to complex life-related questions. For others, it is purely informative, broadening one's mind on the topic of Norse Gods.

Interesting book about Norse Mythology and information if one is interested in becoming, or is one, a pagan.
I am interested in studying the ancient cultures because I have my college degree in Anthropology/Archaeology. I have studied the Maya, Greeks, Druids, Nordic Countries, Egyptians and Romans.
The calendar and the runes are what I had the most interest in the book. Lots of names and stories. I knew some of the legends and found information on ones new to me.
Minnesota is where I live and there are many Scandinavian descendants here.
I won an e-book copy from LibraryThing and the author. The opinions are my own. I gave it a 4 star rating.
The author has hard, paper and e-books on Amazon for sale.
It will be a re-read for me.

This was just one revelation after another. It was very complex in its many explanations and interpretations of the Norse beliefs. It’s not just something you read through once and absorb everything. There is the history, the many gods, the stories of the people and how they civilized so many places in the world. It tells of the significant days of the year, runes, the decline and now current resurrection of Norse beliefs. I appreciate that it offers a wide variety of topics and never demands one pick any but can choose what feels true and best for oneself. This is a reference type book for me to go back to and read about different topics offered until I feel comfortable settling into my own comfort zone of beliefs that I’ll follow.

A valuable book indeed.

I'm not exactly a newbie and I have read a ton of books on Norse paganism, I found this book has given more information I did not run across in any of the other books. I like the fact that the main information was put into compact format without all the unnecessary experiences and other fillers. This makes it a valuable book for both newbies and experienced. I learned some of the answers I had been searching for from book after book. Thank you Emma Karlsson for writing this book!!

Well written, very informative and full of historical information.

Emma Karlsson presents a well written, informative and historically supported documentation of information pertaining to the Norse Paganism ways. Written in such a fashion as to keep you reading, and learning while not feeling like you're trying to decypher or being lectured at about the information you are looking to learn. If you're just learning the ways of Norse Paganism, curious, or want to know more about Norse History this is a great read.

I've always had an interest in vikings, but was never sure of where to start when it comes to learning more. This book is a very informative guide to pagan history and viking culture. It's very informative and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone new to Norse Paganism or those who are already familiar and are looking to learn more. great primer on Norse paganism

This book gives a well rounded introduction to Norse paganism and then goes a bit further than you will find in other books on the same topic. My only request is that it could have been twice as long. I enjoyed the writing and felt it was done by someone who really embraces the subject and is not just a scholarly creation. I suspect I will have to look into the authors other works.

This book shows how to practice Norse Paganism and delves into its history from 8000BC to 1066AD when the Viking Age ended, followed by the calendar, Gods and Goddesses, creatures of Norse mythology, the afterlife, and runes. The book is informative and structured well so readers can navigate through the information.
