This book has a lot of insight and I find very helpful in understanding what my patients are going through and how I can help them and help their families to accept the process and find peace. I have been a nurse for over 14 years but I am new to hospice nursing. I have unexpectedly found that hospice nursing is my passion and what I was meant for! I love being a nurse again! ❤️ I can relate to so many things in this book that I have seen in the last few months and a lot of what is said in this book makes sense.
While I felt the book had good information, it also felt that the author was angry at the family surrounding the dying person. I question a few of the statements like the patients had to go through a "life review". I could have interpreted that from my on feelings. But does it happen for everyone? Wish I could say the writer left me feeling more confident, she did not.
As a former labor and delivery room nurse and Lamaze teacher and now a hospice nurse, this book is gift for family and hospice nurses. In a very gentle and honest manner the reader is provided the knowledge and understanding to guide their loved one in the sacred process of death.
No matter how much I try, nobody will talk about this stuff. Please people, sometimes the best way to help is to just Listen and and provide information, as available.
Very informative book. Will take you from the start and ending of the dying process. Must read. Knowing what happens when we leave this world tells us that dying is temporary because we we are going to move on with our lives eternally.
This is one of the best books I have ever read. I keep it next to my bed, read it regularly and have a stack of copies on hand all the time. I have shared it with dozens of people. I am a psychologist and hospice volunteer. When my father was dying, hospice gave us some copies. Our family cherished its directness, sweet and simple from-the-heart writing style, sensitivity, humbleness, and respect. The physical dying process is described to a t and with each death I witness, it teaches me more. It addresses spirituality in a way that transcends religion. Mary Beth Willi has been a great blessing to me, my family and friends and all the hospice patients I have had the honor to assist. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and read this book.
