This would be fun

Doubtful that anyone would be able to complete this list. It would be fun to see how many you could attend. If already go a start with four from the list, a Cubs game at Wrigley Field, the Indy 500, a Harlem Globetrotters Game, and Pipeline Surfing.

A phenomenal listing of 100 sporting events everyone MUST SEE!

Information provided for each listing: Where (some of these locations go out as far as 2015)? When? Significance, which usually includes a brief history of the event, Who Attends?, Notable Athletes / MVPs, Records, Things to Know Before You Go, How to Get There?, Tickets, Accommodations, On-Site Hospitality, Travel Packages, Dining, Airports, Sports Travel Insider's Edge, Notable Quotes and Relevant Websites.

There's a little of something for everyone, but here are some interesting picks:

#1 (I'm not going to tell you -- check out the book!), but I can tell you it has nothing to do with Baseball, Basketball or Football
#9 -- I will never do this, but Boston @ New York in New Yankee Stadium aka a five-star hotel with a ball field in the middle
#10 UNC vs. Duke Basketball Game @ Cameron Indoor Stadium
#17 -- Michigan vs. Ohio State at the Big House aka Michigan Stadium #20 Final Four (Men's) . . . Notable Athletes: Patrick Ewing (Georgetown), Isiah Thomas (Indiana), Bill Walton (UCLA), Carmelo Anthony (Syracuse), Michael Jordan (UNC), Chris Webber (Michigan), Pervis Ellison (Louisville)
#22 Baseball HOF Weekend
#24 Kentucky Derby
#29 Late Season Green Bay Packers Game @ Lambeau Field (when the snow is falling and your likely to get frostbite!)
#36 Running of the Bulls
#38 Red River Shootout -- if you don't know what this is, you'll have to check out the book!
#40 MLB All-Star Game
#45 Special Olympics
#47 Texas Football Friday Night Lights in Odessa
#51 Ironman World Championship
#60 ACC Basketball Tournament -- this was very interesting to read about and I can see why it's more interesting than the Big Ten, etc.
#61 Caribbean World Series -- Notable Athletes: Roberto Clemente, Reggie Jackson, David Ortiz, Willie Mays, Sammy Sosa . . .
#72 Opening Day in Cincinnati @ Great American Ballpark on Joe Nuxhall Way -- I still miss old Riverfront Stadium, but ...

#73 -- Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4th in Brooklyn, NY -- You have to read this (and perhaps go there) to believe this!

#85 -- Baseball Game @ Rickwood Field in Alabama
#87 -- Spring Training Game @ Tigertown (this one's for my cousin who is a die hard Tigers Fan even though he has never lived in Michigan). The Detroit Tigers have made Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, FL their home since 1965, the longest tenure of any team!

There are other interesting listings for golf, tennis, boxing, the Iditarod and more! Check it out!

Want to plan a trip to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA in January? How about the Iditarod dog sled races in Alaska next March? And what about the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, BC, Canada in 2010?

It's not that hard to plan, not with Robert Tuchman's guide that lists the event, when, where, significance, who attends, the history, sports records, things to know before you go, and info on tickets, travel packages, dining, airports, and relevant websites to search. He even throws in notable quotes re the events.

Tuchman also gives you his top 10 cities for hosting a major sporting event. He chooses Miami, Fla. for his number one pick because of the weathere, South Beach and the bars, and "topnotch facilities" for a variety of sports, from NASCAR to football, golf, and other outdoor facilities.

His number 2 pick is, surprise!, Indianapolis, Ind. Then comes number 3, San Antonio, Tx. He gives you all the good reasons for his choices and the disadvantages as well.

If you like to travel overseas for your sports events, you can chooles from the Monaco Grand Prix, the Dubai World Cup, Wimbledon in England, the French Open, to the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain. And don't forget the Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament as well.

There is a checklist in the back of the book for you to choose your events.

I would have liked to see the sports events listed alphabetically by title as well as a list by date. It's December, what can I go to and where? What's available during my free time in the middle of February?

A great book for sports fans, for those who can afford the time and expenses it takes to hop from one to the other event, and even for those who just want to read about them. (I bet the media would use this book just as much as anyone else.)
