This book has been considered important throughout the human history, and so that this work is never forgotten Alpha Editions has made efforts in its preservation by republishing this book in a modern format for the present and future generations. This whole book has been re-formatted, re-typed and re-designed. These books are not made of scanned copies of their original work, and hence the text is clear and readable.
It was an interesting read, but I found it very hard to get through. Written and published during the Civil War, it reads almost like a piece of Northern propaganda. I almost wonder if anything was exaggerated. The escape was exciting, but I wasn't crazy about the writing style.
This is one of many first-hand accounts I have read by southerners who opposed slavery, supported the Union, and opposed secession at the outset of the Civil War.
