A great balance of Egyptian history, the archaeologist's work, memorable recollections, and social and political dilemmas.

This was a great read, after getting past the first two chapters. Weigall, can really bring the study of Ancient Egypt to life. This book was published in 1912 and it is just amazing to think how much the knowledge about Ancient Egypt and Archeology has developed and grown since then. It is so interesting to see what the leading thoughts of that time were. This is a book I will be sure to refer to over the years for the sheer enjoyment of it.

This book is GREAT! From expounding on the value archaeology to discussing Egyptian history and symbolism, this book is a great primer. The pictures are wonderful. I had never seen some of them before and it made the read more interesting.
