Landmarks: A Process Reader for Canadian Writers

Rate this book
Suitable for use in composition and literature courses that have an essay writing emphasis, at both the university and college level. This student-centered text offers a wide variety of challenging and provocative essays by Canadian writers. The essays are organized around the steps in the writing invention, development, arrangement, style, and delivery. The final two chapters suggest ways in which students can apply these steps to two specific types of rhetorical analyses and research papers.

Like all books I'm required to read for English, this one was OKAY. But, seeing as how this was the first book I had to read for my first university English class....I think I have a bit more of a love-hate relationship was this book.

Most of the essays I had to read were quite enlightening, actually! And definitely gave the class something to talk about. Some other ones were....*yawn*....BUT! There were a few essays in here that I've read before in high school, which was pretty nice!

Now, something more on the actual essays from this book. As expected, the essays, most of them anyway...gave us a lot to think about, and helped introduce me to several topics I never really considered before. Other essays ended off really optimistically and made me feel better about myself and my life...or at least...want to better it. The sections at the end that outlined the processes of writing rhetorical and argument essays were SUPER helpful!

Well naturally this is a school book for my Essay Writing class because I definitely wouldn't have picked this up willingly. However, I actually enjoyed it. It's a collection of really interesting essays about writing essays and guide showing you what different types of essays there are and how to improve your own writing. Personally, I'm more of a creative writer so the really academic essays weren't as interesting. but there were a large collection of essays that were relatively informal and more narrative that I enjoyed as much as I would if I were reading a real book.
So if anyone else happens to get this book for school or may just want to pick it up its a great read and it really does help with your own writing, whether it's academic or not.
