Gleaned during an 1879 interview, Chief Joseph of the Nez Percâe Indians recounts his and his people's experiences from the arrival of Lewis and Clark through the Nez Percâe wars of 1877, and makes a plea for his people to be treated humanely.
Great book that really documents first hand the traumatic take over of the white settlers in the native American areas. While reading this book you really get a feel for the anger and desperation that was faced by Chief Joseph as his people.
Makes my heart sick. This book is a very straight forward and simplified example of our slow killing of a people. The earth will rid of us one day and the indigenous people will reign over Mother Earth again. The way it was meant to be.
This book was put together from a series of questions Chief Joseph asked while in Washington, DC to appeal for his people. He recounts that the Nez Pearce have always been friendly to the whites. That his tribe never sold their land to the whites. That they only wanted to live in peace.
