This is a realistic fiction book for Kindergarten. It has a section for each of the five pets it talks about in the book and it talks about ways you can take care of each pet. It allows for the students to go into conversation on how you should take care of a pet and why you do it.

I would say that the topics present in this book are interaction with animals and life within local communities. The students are bringing and sharing their pets with their classmates. I also think this idea of sharing something you love with your classmates is a common idea for a classroom. C.
