Life delivers an unexpected blow. A first born with a brain injury. Uncertainty. Confusion. A medical diagnosis with big words. What to do? Where to begin?
From Kacy Seitz comes a bold and honest memoir. A relatable account of her family and their journey of navigating their newborn’s brain injury, and ultimately, how they’ve learned to handle things.
As someone who also experienced a traumatic birth, emergency C section, and child who experienced a brain injury at birth, this book was so incredibly relatable. Especially since we also live in KC. So many of our experiences overlapped, but especially our grief, emotions and struggles along the way. I can’t express how much I appreciate the vulnerability in this story, and although it was hard to read at times, as it is still pretty fresh for us, I also found her perspective and wisdom (as someone way further ahead) to be healing and encouraging. It gave me renewed hope. Thank you, Kacy.
I was so grateful to read this book and remember that I’m not alone. Kacy is vulnerable and real in this memoir! This book is a wonderful way to get a glimpse into what life is like when you are thrown the huge curve balls of birth trauma, brain injury, and special needs. Everyone has curve balls of different kinds in life, and even if you don’t have personal experience with the ones in this book, you can relate to the feelings we all have to deal with as we navigate hard things.
I’ve been following the See the Seitz YouTube channel for years and I like how open and honest Dan and Kacy are about their life. I could immediately relate because I also have quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, visual impairments and seizures. I have another disability called hydrocephalus.
The title of the book is positive. However, I do know that how you handle things isn’t the only factor that counts when living with severe and complex disabilities. It can be extra disheartening when things don’t work out.
Kacy’s writing style is open and honest. I feel I already know her daughter Hudsyn, her son Damek, husband Dan and herself via YouTube, but the book gives an extra deep look at their life and Hudsyn’s, as well as Damek’s, disabilities. I know that they are a great example of a committed, loving family.
I am so happy to own a Kindle ebook version of this book. Thank you Kacy for writing it. It’s memorable.
This documentary should be required reading for all obstetrical healthcare providers! A story of incredible strength and perseverance and how to obtain hope and joy in the face of one of life's most tragic circumstances.
I would recommend this book to anyone that feels they are going thru a difficult journey with a disable family member. Anyone seeking to see what can be achieved with unconditional love and the desire to share it with the world.
This is a raw and vulnerable read, so be read to experience ALL the emotions.
Kacy has a way of writing that captivates you and makes you feel part of the moment you're reading about. Hudsyn is such a special girl and reading her story like this made me learn that much more about her and to be a better person in society.
Thank yoU for sharing this traumatic birthing story which turned into a beautiful family adventure story!

A lady I work with recommended this book and although it is not a book I typically read, it was a good book. We forget the struggles some people may be facing and the hardships that some families are going through. So many different situations and so many outcomes.
