Ruby: A Novella

Rate this book
From the author of TALES OF A BROKEN HEARTED GIRL and THORNS OF A ROSE comes a page-turning drama portraying an unforgettable journey as a young girl navigates through gut-wrenching adventures from childhood to adulthood surviving in the only ways she knows how.

Although an adored only child, Ruby’s parents had no clue that they could not protect her from life that refused to shield her from her childhood trauma that she had been dead set on keeping a secret.

Although it had seemed that Ruby Robinson had learned to worry before she had learned to walk as she wrested with hurdles bigger than herself she was lucky enough to meet her best friend Charmin Rogers who understood the path they had chosen to walk when every other road felt like a dead end.

Ruby was a hurt girl that grew into a hurt adult and must come to terms with her childhood past that left long-lasting scars that will affect her in ways she doesn’t understand and won’t for years to come.

At sixteen, both Ruby and Charmin’s lives changed when life offered an unexpected opportunity to heal from the fatigues of their journey. As they turned from teenagers to young adults entering college, their lives altered as one finds herself after victories small and great and the other loses herself from arduous challenges.

Then, with the arrival of JT and Daryl into her life, Ruby feels worthy of love again and finds herself thrust into a convoluted love triangle where she eventually chooses between the two.

This novella leads readers through a story filled with realistic beautiful characters that explore important issues of womanhood, hope, and friendship that last a lifetime. The scene goes by at a steady pace and appropriately switches from darker moments to lighter moments in a very brilliant way. It’s a gripping read, and not because anything huge and dramatic is happening but because of the emotional tension and how Ruby interacts with the world and the people around her. Ruby Robinson has never been easy to be around but despite her complex personality readers will still fall in love and root for her.
