Evolution Ended

We are in the midst of a great transition…

Throughout human history, our survival was strictly a function of our strength, our smarts, and our ability to attract a mate. But modern technologies are now so advanced that we no longer need strength or smarts to survive. Worse yet, we no longer need each other. Medical advances allow anyone to survive and reproduce. The tribes and communities that supported us have been replaced by social media, and our role models have been supplanted by characters on reality TV. The decline of the nuclear family, mass shootings, political division, distrust of authority, obesity, drug addiction, and the rise of extremism are all just symptoms of this grand transition from survival of the fittest to survival through technology. The book Evolution Ended explores how we got to our current state and the surprising future that’s in store.

This book absolutely blew me away! J.J. Jerome provides a brilliant new perspective on how mankind has evolved from the earliest tribes to arrive at our current dysfunctional state. While I was familiar with many of the concepts in the book, Jerome is the first author to show how survival of the fittest evolution was the driving force for every aspect of civilization and how technology is now derailing the process.
Evolution Ended is written in a unique style that is a cross between non-fiction and a novel. Rather than just a lineup of facts, it reads like a friend is telling you a story – a story that starts with the Camelot of the Kennedy era and ends with the new society we will all experience in the not-too-distant future. The book mixes science, anthropology, pop culture, humor, and history to provide a super engaging, enlightening, and fun read. I can’t recommend this book enough.

Evolution Ended: The Next Stage of American Society is a wonderfully well-written look at the changes that American society has gone through over the years. From the first chapter, the author delves into the history of America and hypothesizes that America reached its peak of civilization during the 1960s. The author provides a sound argument with plenty of evidence and then uses that evidence along with history and science to look at and explain so much of the world around us.

It is written in a way that is incredibly easy to read even if you are not a history buff or you struggle to understand philosophical or scientific concepts. It was highly engaging and after the first few chapters, I couldn’t put it down. The author writes in a way that engages the reader and makes them feel like they are involved in a casual conversation. The author presents a clear hypothesis and then shares his knowledge to support his argument. If you like history and the inner workings of science, philosophy, and psychology then this is the perfect book for you. It explains so much about society, where we’ve been, and where we are headed. Grab it immediately. I promise that you won’t regret it.

“Our world no longer promotes the risk-taking and critical thinking skills we need to survive”

J.J. Jerome’s book is a thought-provoking reality check about the world we live in. Filled with historical backgrounds and scientific support, the message is clear - at least to anyone over the age of 25 – that we as people are rapidly changing. When I think of evolution, I automatically equate it with the changes in man. Jerome’s book delineates how the shift in progress is not simply around man, but also mankind. Advances in science, medicine, technology, even the way we procure a mate have not only changed our lifestyle, but evolution itself. I may not agree with every theoretical concept and scenario the book lays out but there’s certainly enough to create an honest, objective, and thought-provoking read about a new paradigm for our society.

Evolution Ended was a very thought-provoking read and made me think about how much humans have changed in the last century. I was drawn in from the very first chapter when the author talks about how America hit its peak in the 60s after an era of depression and world wars. Since then, we have made great advances in medicine and technology, but have these advances caused us to move backward as a society? The author explains in depth how we as a society have moved away from a traditional lifestyle that kept us moving forward as humans and now almost completely relies on technology for survival. Is this how we were meant to evolve? Evolution Ended explains the enormous changes we already see in our society and the surprising direction that humanity will take. This book is a very worthwhile read regarding the topic of societal evolution and its effects on the human race!

A New Era for Mankind!

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and found it hard to put it down. It is a very interesting topic, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys non-fiction books about our changing society. My favorite quote, and the one that stuck with me was, “With our rapidly changing world, everything you learn in school will be outdated by the time you graduate” (page 195). So do yourself a favor, and pick this book up!

For an author who has received a great deal of accolades, Jerome delivers a work of more or less superficial fluff. While he makes salient points throughout the book, there is no real depth. Many explanations used contemporary media examples to clarify his points. Disappointed

The premise of this book claims that current events in the last century in the US have ended the process of evolution, a process that occurs over eons and is universal. Saying that the one affects the other is rather like claiming that the assassination of Kennedy ended gravity. Evolution is a strong theory precisely because it is not affected by local perturbations. Having cleared up that problem, this book is an interesting review of current events in the US since 1961. It even makes interesting applications of types of males to the political situation since 1961.
