Lilly Blyly is the epitome of a free spirit. She seeks freedom to exist in a world of kindness and unconditional acceptance. She also longs for the freedom to love and be loved but not held too tightly. She needs to breathe, make her own mistakes, and forge ahead in pure utopian fashion. Yet, as a visionary and artist, Lilly holds a sadness and feeling of disconnection within. Her moods bend and change, sometimes without warning, and move into darker, more haunting places. She lies in bed for several days, only rising to use the bathroom. She needs this escape. It is a time of recovery from the chaos of life. Lilly's journey has been long and arduous, but she has a story to tell. Overcoming childhood trauma, addiction, and mental illness, she has found her highest calling and shares her experience to empower and enlighten the collective. Lilly transmutes her pain into progress. We too can rewrite our stories, no matter how tragic or tumultuous. Follow Lilly on a journey to find her soul. Perhaps you may even find your own.
Cara Chugg's debut work, A Journey to Find Her Soul, is a short fictional story about a girl named Lillian Blyly. A daughter of an alcoholic mother and absentee father, her youth was full of tribulations.
As the author said, within all of us lies a piece of Lillian Blyly, and after reading this story, I strongly agree with her. The character is realistic and makes mistakes; Lillian is flawed but not an evil human being. This book portrays how she deals with all the imperfections, heartbreaks, and trauma and eventually discovers her true essence.
I recommend this book to those who want to read something distinctive yet realistic tale.
Capture the beauty of healing, growth and forgiveness
Lilly’s journey is hauntingly relatable in ways to me. She captures the shame of feeling less than the greater world around you, something that can become a self-fulfilling prophecy if you let it. She demonstrates well the awkwardness of youthful relationships. The decline of family members, carried to dark places by their poor choices backed by a region and culture that demands little of you and always offers temptation. There are so many painful moments throughout the book (life life itself) and yet, through the strive and ultimate growth, you find peace with Lilly. ❤️
This book I think will not appeal to everyone. It was written in a way where the book is telling and explaining things to you vs. just telling/showing you a story. In some aspects I think this worked well for this book and I think if this would have been in audio form it would have been even better. Because, you would have gotten the full effect of someone telling you a story. The dialogue throughout the story, creates a well rounded tale where you aren't just listening to someone talk about someone else. It really grounds you into the story that is Lily and her life. I enjoyed learning more about her in this very short less than 100 page tale. I could see someone reading this while at the beach or just taking it easy for the day. Since it would be very quickly read. I would really enjoy if the author came back with one of the stories that Lily wrote herself. I think that would be very interesting to read one of those after learning about her.
