The Trail Of My Life, The Gene Espy Story

In recent years there have been many tales of life on the Appalachian Trail. The Trail has become synonymous with the call of the wilderness, the test of one s endurance, the ultimate escape from modern life. But back in 1951 when a twenty-four year old named Gene Espy from Cordele, Georgia, decided he wanted to walk the entire Appalachian Trail in one long hike, only one other person had ever done it. The Trail for thru-hiker was virtually un-tested waiting to be conquered. The Trail of My Life is the story of one man s journey from Georgia to Maine along the now-famous Appalachian Trail.

Mr Espy is absolutely charming. I had the great fortune of hearing him speak at a Gwinnett Library event and everyone there hung on every word he said.

This book covers the life of Gene Espy and his thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail in 1951. I adore his silly antics and crazy stories, especially since they were written by him. I regularly would read out his amazing adventures to the people sitting next to me because I couldn’t believe it. Overall, I loved reading his stories and they gave me a sense of wanderlust that I’m sure won’t be fulfilled until I hike the AT myself.

Enjoyed reading the story of this epic hike on the Appalachian Trail. This book stands out from all the others since you get the feel of the Trail in its early years.
