It's Ken Weber's wildly successful Five-Minute Mysteries series-now in its second mini edition! The Five-Minute Mysteries books have sold over a million copies because they're an anytime-activity that appeals to so many audiences: reluctant readers, bored kids in the backs of cars, families looking for a game everyone loves, amateur sleuths, puzzle-enthusiasts, time-challenged adults, and that burgeoning new crowd-baby boomers trying to exercise their brains. This harrowing collection of Halloween-themed mysteries is a great way to kick-off a fright night's revelries and an equally great hostess gift for the Mom who's letting the little ghouls have their post-game kick back at her house.
I love little books like this...brain-teasers. There are 6 little spooky halloween mysteries given with a question for the reader to solve, but just in case you get stumped they also give you the solutions on the next page. Fun and short book good for a quick brain exercise.
Running Press is known for producing tiny books the size of your hand, and this is one of them that I've had for a while. It's a cute concept, and the book is nicely designed. There are six brief stories, and at the end something a character states a fact and you have to figure out how they knew. I was able to figure out most of them. In a few, I had another theory that I felt was stronger that wasn't acknowledged in the solutions, which was a bit annoying. But it did make me pay close attention to the details of the story. I thought the last story was clever, the others were just ok. But it's not easy to write a very short story so well, and I think the author did a good job.
It’s a fun little book and while it’s easy to ready, it still makes you think like a detective. Can you see the answers that are so obvious you miss them?
