This book's unique, self-teaching programmed format helps to (1) teach students how to conduct a neurologic examination (2) review the anatomy and physiology for interpreting it, and (3) show which laboratory tests help to clarify the clinical problem. Updated to reflect the impact of new imaging modalities such as CT and MRI on neurological diagnosis, the book is designed to closely represent the situations physicians will encounter in practice and rehearses the responses they will need to make.
exquisite integration of neuroanatomy and physiology with the physical exam. encourages the reader to think through pathways and understand what information behaviors can provide as well as how to properly elicit such behaviors.
I read the 60s edition from my library and found it refreshing from the start, using a "fill in the blanks" teaching approach I had never seen used in a book before. Through the middle it become a little annoying, having to constantly Look For the answer and think, but I guess it's a good teaching method even if it doesn't work its best with me. I'm looking forward to see the current edition and see how it's been updated for today's students.
