What’s the point of being a weapon if you can’t control it?
Evading the Avalon and bringing her family back together is just out of Alana’s reach. Now that Councilor Keren has the key to destroying the Gaian race, the Midorian Intervention will stop at nothing to ensure she can’t use it.
Between Keren’s attempts to destroy an entire race and Mal’s plans to use her, Alana is forced to take matters into her own hands to save not only her brother, but every Gaian on the planet.
Nothing is as it seems, and when she learns more about her past lives than she bargained for, she has to face her worst fears to decide who truly has the best intentions for the Gaian people.
Alana is divided—along with the anahata shared between her two Mirror Souls—and the time has come to decide who and what she’s fighting for.

So my first book of the year is done! However 98% of it was read in 2023, I just couldn’t stay awake long enough to finish it before midnight on New Years Eve 😂 gutted lol
Anyhoo, back to the story! This is the third and last instalment of The Mirror Souls trilogy and as usual, Julia Scott is great at keeping you interested with short, page-turning chapters. I really enjoyed exploring more places and characters in this book and always found it easy to imagine and transport myself there with the way it is effectively written. There were some big twists again that I wasn’t expecting and was eager to keep reading to find out what was going to happen and ultimately who Alana would end up with! I was not disappointed ;) *swoon*
The only thing I was a little saddened by was the journey through the Wild. I just felt this went a little too quickly and easily for the characters as I got the impression it was supposed to be pretty dangerous and difficult to be in there. It did feel eerie, and I know the characters struggled with the walking and length of their journey, however I thought it was a bit of a missed opportunity to explore the Wild a little further, where perhaps it could have been a moment where they stumbled across some difficult situations or experiences with some weird and wonderful ‘evolved’ animals which were briefly mentioned.
Despite this, I still thoroughly enjoyed this book and trilogy as a whole and still believe this would make an excellent tv series one day! I really hope this can come to fruition as I’d LOVE to see this story and world brought to life on screen. I’m sad the trilogy has ended but happy with the way it did. I look forward to more stories written by Julia Scott in the future. Proud of you my friend!
The Original Midorian was a fantastic finale to a thrilling series. I love the family dynamics throughout this series; it's really refreshing to read a YA with strong parental figures, who are highly involved and providing support to the MCs.
I know love triangles are not always a favourite for a lot of readers but this was so well written. It wasn't like the MC strung them along like in other popular love triangles... and there was a mystical element that contributed to the feelings etc, which made things more interesting (mirror souls), and there was no cheating or anything like that. I really liked it and was rooting for my choice throughout the series. They were both strong male characters, but had distinct personalities and strengths.
I really liked the clues and second POV info we got that the MC didn't necessarily have.
This book was action packed, fast paced, and super exciting. I was trying to guess what happened next, and could barely put it down. I read it in two days, which is fast for me (the last book I read that fast was book 2 of this series! 😂).
Fantastic conclusion to an out-of-this-world trilogy! Revelations, repercussions and romance - this book had it all. I enjoyed how we traversed Gaia, going back to where it all began, and how Alana grew and had to deal with so much, but handled it admirably. I did not see the ending coming, and for that I am grateful - I do like to be surprised! Everything was wrapped up nicely, in a well-written, well-thought-out way.
Can't wait to read more from this exceptional author!
Having thoroughly enjoyed The Mirror Souls (Book 1) and the Anahata Divide (Book 2), I couldn't wait to see how this trilogy wrapped up in The Original Midorian.
I wasn't disappointed!
The trials Alana faces in this final installment are about as high stakes as you can get, as she fights for control over the destructive power of the anahata divide she shares with Aiden and Dray.
The fate of an entire race hangs in the balance.
As I expected from Julia Scott, the character development is top notch, the plot gets even more twisty with flashbacks to past lives that reveal sobering truths, and the pacing is on point.
Also, I want to point out how hard it is to write a book with high stakes and rapid pacing that doesn't rely on murder and a high body count as the driving force. That said, Scott pulls it off.
If you're looking for a light (yet engrossiing), science-fantasy trilogy that ends the way the Divergent series should have ended, then I highly recommend these books!
As Scott's editor for book three, again, I might be biased but THIS BOOK.
What an absolute perfect ending to the trilogy, with action and romance and closure for what was an incredible ride. Being able to experience all three perspectives helped to give the reader more understanding about how Alana, Aiden, and Dray are managing what they're going through. And let's just say, that villain got what she deserved.
Such an amazing end to one of my favorite sci fi fantasies I've read! The pacing kept the pages turning with ease, the characters were impossible not to fall in love with, and the world building and many different sceneries kept me mesmerized from the start of the series to the last page of the third installment. I recommend these books to anyone who wants some light SFF, a dash of romance, and an adventurous escape from reality for a bit. 💛
The end of a crazy rollercoaster ride. I have loved reading about these characters and following their development. The book did not end like I expected it to at all, but I really think the story was wrapped up beautifully and I will read all these books again in the future. Definitely worth both your time and money.
Brilliant end to the series. I’m super happy at the final pairing. I loved the conclusion, and whilst it is a complete story in itself, I can see that there could be potential for future books in this universe if that’s the way the author decides to go.
As someone who is a fantasy girl through and through, this has been an easy to read and entertaining introduction to sci-fi.
Finishing up Alana, Aiden, and Dray's story was bittersweet. I think the ending was perfect, and I won't give any spoilers. The characters evolved, the story grew, and the truth came out. It's a great trilogy I'll recommend to friends!
A fantastic send to a fantastic rollercoaster ride of a trilogy! Loved the shifting perspectives from each of the main characters, added extra depth and excitement to the story. Highly recommend and would easily read again
I loved the wrap up to this series! These books have so many twists and fantastic characters. I love the family dynamics and the unique story for each of them. This is a perfect YA series and 💯 recommend!
Well having read Mirror Souls and The Anahata Divide (books 1 and 2 of this trilogy) in just under two weeks, I wasn't going to stop with only one book left in the trilogy! The Original Midorian brings the story that started in Mirror Souls to a satisfying, and unexpected, conclusion.
I may have DMed the author to announce my book depression after finishing this series... I flew through the 'Anahata Divide' at a rapid pace, dying for more information, and couldn't believe it when I read 'The Original Midorian' even faster. Yesterday I couldn't put the book down. Every time I thought I'd take a break, I found myself churning through another chapter. Yet again the multi-perspective aspect was perfectly executed and gave such a deeper look into the characters and their motivations. It brought richness and authenticity to a love triangle where I was still unsure which 'team' I was on until the choice was made for me... This trilogy is nothing short of 'out of this world' and it's conclusion does the plotline absolute justice. I was particularly drawn to the fact that the protagonist was messy around the edges, didn't totally fit the mould, made plenty of mistakes and was a bit 'out of control'. It's been a while since a book made me teary, but 'The Original Midorian' managed on more than one occasion. I'm in awe of Scott's ability to make such a distant future feel so distinct and imaginable.
'Love is always the answer'. I don't know if truer words have ever been spoken...
