Like many local histories, it’s a mixed bag, but still offers some interesting insights into what life was life in Choctaw County in its early decades. Good info about the early settlement of the area, and about the numerous boundary changes for the county. The author, a former Mississippi governor, offers descriptions of some of the local schools and a rundown of various local newspapers through the years, which could be helpful for researchers. There’s a lot of “namedropping” and emphasis on prominent local doctors and lawyers toward the end, which didn’t make for riveting reading. Still, a unique and somewhat helpful resource for those interested in Choctaw County history.
