Billionaire BRUCE WAYNE is asked to support the military’s newest weapon, the ParaBomb X, a high-tech orb that emits a paralyzing light. But during the weapon’s demonstration, a general grabs the orb, crashes through the window, and falls to the street below. BRUCE WAYNE is stunned. When he looks down at the street, he sees the thief turn into a gooey pile of mud and slip down a storm drain with the stolen weapon. He wasn’t a general at all, he was one of BATMAN'S strangest enemies, CLAYFACE.
This is the longest book Emerson and I have read to date! It is sized similarly to other easy reader level 1 and 2 books so we picked it up at the library but this book was very different. It is a real book: a chapter book! 5 chapters, to be exact. I needed a glass of water when I was done. The drawings are vivid and interesting and the plot is well developed. We get a history of batman and the villains, namely clayface and joker. The end of the book also includes a glossary and a Gotham police file on clayface. Also included are discussion questions. We really enjoyed these and they emphasized the good lessons learned in the story; I liked this because I was concerned about the violence of the fighting but the good points were not lost on our 5 year old reader. We discussed helping others, even our enemies, and whether anger excuses bad behavior. Very good!
BATMAN: THE REVENGE OF CLAYFACE by Eric Stevens is an exciting children's book/comic book/guided reading level:M. A fast paced, adventure filled young readers story. If you or your child enjoys comic books, fantasy, science fiction this is the book for you. A wonderful chapter book for young readers. The illustrations are awesome. Received for an honest review from the publicist.
Part of the new DC Super Heroes series by Stone Arch Books (Capstone). While they look like comics, they are actually lower level chapter books. Not particularly thought-provoking, but definitely fun. I can see kids really liking these - I'm adding them to my collection for sure.
