When Jenny was offered the chance to go out to South Africa for a few months she couldn't help hoping that this might be her opportunity to find her childhood friend Neil Donaldson again. For Neil had been seen there recently, in the very Drakensberg Mountains area where Jenny would be going -- and she still kept her old half affectionate, half romantic memories of him. But instead she met two other men -- the charming Andrew Langley, and the equally charming but far more puzzling Ross Sundy, and between the two of them all kinds of complications ensued. And she still found no trace of Neil...

Location: Drakensberg Mountains, South Africa

After nursing her ill parents for years before their deaths, Jenny, the h, is offered a holiday trip to South Africa with the mother of her best friend. She is hesitant to accept until she learns that mutual friends saw her childhood friend Neil Donaldson there and he worked with the forestry department. Jenny was ten the last time she saw Neil and in her mind there was a mystery behind his disappearance from her life. On the chance of seeing her friend again, she agrees to go on the trip with Mrs. R.

Once in Drakensberg, she meets a forester named Ross Sundy. She and Ross have an instant attraction to each other, but whenever she asks about Neil, Ross gets defensive and upset. To keep from upsetting him, she decides to stop asking Ross about Neil. She was successful until she found a necklace that belonged to Neil at Ross’ cabin.

This was an interesting story. I never quite understood why Ross did what he did. Jenny’s loyalty to Neil is either commendable or crazy. She hadn’t seen him in over ten years but she refused to give up her search.

I loved the descriptiveness of the author’s writing. She brought the dragon mountains to life. She also illustrated how stupid people can be when they aren’t fully aware of the dangers of their location while on holiday.

Jenny chose a forested area to lay down and take a nap and found herself napping next to a venomous snake. Just. Nooooo! I cringed every time she decided to walk thorough an unknown South African forest BY HERSELF!! I was expect a snake/scorpion bite every time. Smh

A credit to the author for making me get the heebie jeebies! Good book. Interesting characters. Beautiful descriptions of the location. Makes me want to visit, but ..... SNAKES! Not for me.
