NEFFEA story that doesn't justify the streetsbut glorifies a destiny unfolding through time. As you read this book, as you digest each portion of my poured out soul, I need you to understand that these words are not just apart of me but apart of you. No matter who you areNo matter how old you areNo matter your race, religion, economical status, sexuality, gender, occupation, or IQ. I challenge you to journey through these pages of broken promises, revived hopes, and countless dreams without being able to relate. I dare you to continue over looking the dysfunctional instabilities that society tends to disregard behind heavy coats of bull...and expose them for the traumatizing burdens they weigh down to be.I encourage you to read my story and deny a need to call out the counterfeit, unveil the hypocrite and assist with reconstructing the destruction of innocence.I warn you as this book is in your possession to wake up the worrier within and re-affirm that life is not about being perfect but being in positionI plead that you take heed and rise above the circumstances trusting that there is a bigger promise awaiting your arrival.as I testify to you, The truth The whole truthAnd nothing but.....
As they say in the streets: I Can't Go. I tried; I mean: I really tried, but I can't get through this mess. The Author House logo might have given it away for some, but I've entered writing contests that were won by Author House books, so never let how a book gets published be a barometer of its quality. Having said that, Neffe has enough backing and enough star power to be able to research the best publishing methods for herself, and maybe she didn't.
Neffe had an editor and a ghostwriter. Now I don't know what her editor's credentials are, but I always thought an editor had to, at the very least, know something about English. Aside from some horrendous comma placements, there was not one possessive apostrophe in the first twenty pages. And then the apostrophes ended up on the wrong side of the "s". As for the ghostwriter...I wonder if she's done time in prison. Anyone who's read the blurb already knows the problem: the entire book is written in what I call "jail speak." That's when someone goes to jail, picks up a dictionary, learns all these new words, but has no idea how to use them in a sentence. The TV show "In Living Color" used to parody this phenomenon all the time, and Little C on "So You Think You Can Dance" is its Number One Offender. The syntax errors in the manuscript are more numerous than the offspring God promised Abram (Gen 13:16).
What's sad is that Neffe's story of the abuse she suffered at the hands of her grandmother, and her heartbreaking journey through the streets of Oakland while searching for her mother, is a very powerful one. Not only do I feel for Neffe: deeply; but I also finally understand the root of Neffe's frustration with Frankie, and why Neffe feels like Frankie somehow owes her. Neffe's quest for her mother cost her dearly, yet as a motherless child I understand what drove Neffe through those streets. Neffe was in search of a fantasy, as I was; and Frankie is under no obligation to be what Neffe wants, and needs, her to be. What Neffe found was a flawed woman, and as ugly as her home life was, Neffe was better off with her grandmother than she was with Frankie. I went through the exact same thing; I really did. So please don't feel like I am criticizing Neffe's journey, or her story. I just wish to God Neffe had found someone worthy of handling her story; someone who would have given this story the respect, and the presentation, it so rightly deserved.
I gave Neffe 5 stars because she really did very well for her first book. Being from the same streets really helped I totally get where she was coming from telling this story. I also think that you have to read this book with a open mind and heart. You can't really read this book and judge her for several things like spelling or just how hood Neffe is she didn't leave nothing out and it's her realness that I felt while reading this book. I enjoyed her work and I will be ready and buying everything that she puts before us. Thanks Neffe
This book was about Keshia Coles sister and her life. She went threw so much. From pregnecy to not having her mother around to being raped. This lady has been threw it all. But in her life even tho she only had her grandmother that she couldn't stand she always kept her head up.
I liked this book because it was real life. She wrote it her self and talked about her life and i support her sister music so it was great.
What i learned from this book is many words .! I also learned to move foward and face any of my problems. This book it good for people my race and age. Even older because she expresses her feelings between her life now and her past life and what she is doin to improve the things she has.
y did she go with a vaanity press when she was on two hit shows.Who is managing her cause I know manny keyshia former manager could have got her deal with a major publisher. I guess she didnt do her research
this book is a goddamnn shame. I can not believe she was treated like this. such a broken soul. she is so beautiful too and that's the sad part. I feel for her so badly. the only one who got a decent deal is Keyshia Cole.
