NEW RELEASE!! The Skinny On Jack book #2 in the humorous Jack B Smart cozy mystery series. https://amzn.to/2Kg7S0q Jacqueline Bouviér Smart, aka Jack B to friends and family, is an aspiring mystery writer and part time amateur sleuth who has once again sworn off men and murder.
Inheriting shares in a weight loss company over the holidays should be a good thing, not something that leads to bombs going off and your car getting blown up. Right? Jack B doesn’t think so. Nor does she trust on again, off again beau, Seattle Police Detective Stone Maddox to catch the culprits.
When she starts to investigate, she discovers more might be disappearing at the weight loss clinic than pounds. The owner has been missing for a few months. Before she can figure out what’s going on, her counselor dies. Then Stone gets involved, and his brother Duke, and three gun-totin’ grannies, and even her deceased ex-husband. Before Jack B knows what hit her, she’s up to her favorite hoop earrings in men and murder. Again.
I haven't read a Harlequin romance novel in a while. This was a nice change of pace. I enjoyed reading about this couple. This romance was about a couple who meet again when Laura tires of running away from the unknown person following her. I love that despite the hurt these to have between them, they decide to figure it all out. The book was suspenseful and really held my interest.
Laura I really liked this character. She is scared but she chooses to trust the one man that she once walked out on. I loved that she had a kind and forgiving heart because there were a lot of people who needed her forgiveness.
Jake Jake is the typical macho guy who buries his heart behind tough talk. He was very hurt by Laura missing their wedding. Once he realized that she was truly in danger, he put all his hurt aside to help save the woman that he still loved. Definitely the type of hero that I love reading about.
the killer I was a bit surprised about the killer. I won't spoil the surprise for other readers but I never suspected who it was.
the ending I enjoyed the ending. I love how everything wrapped up nicely. I loved that this was a romantic suspense book and not just a romance. I would definitely read another book by this author.
A pretty good page-turner that's undermined by a weak love story. Basically, the characters already love each other; they just don't trust each other. So, if you're don't want a book where they're falling in love, but are falling in trust, this one's for you. The climax is really rushed, and the love story--what there is of one--is resolved in an offhand way in the last couple of pages. Lee has a way with tension and suspense, but she might as well have not bothered with a romance and made a straight mystery instead. This one just doesn't cut it.
4 Stars! ~ Laura needs Jake to believe her. A year ago she left him at the alter for a very good reason. But Jake didn't get the message she sent him, instead he got a 'Dear Jake' letter saying she was eloping with another man. Now she's tired of running and she needs Jake to help retrieve the proof that her aunt and uncle were murdered.
Right from the very first page, Ms. Lee had me involved in this story ... a very good read.
