Fans of Gossip Girl, The Help, Sex and the City, and Reality TV – This book was made for you!
New York's Upper East Side has always been a close-knit society, one that only those who can afford million-dollar homes, private schools, and have staff at their disposal 24/7 can join. One might think that if you can do all of that, a happy life is guaranteed, but one would be very wrong!
Welcome to The Untold Stories of Madison Avenue, follow a mysterious figure calling himself The Guy Who Knows, because he knows everyone who is anyone on the Upper East Side and all their secrets. You might think this is another book unveiling the silk curtain over Madison Avenue's extravagant life, but in reality, the book delves more than that; it goes into their personal secrets, their most intimate thoughts, their search for happiness and love. Caution though, you might find some stories quite scandalous and shocking like In the story of Andre and Andrea, the latter has a secret child with someone else, and then gets paid big bucks in hush money to keep it a secret, or Natalie Granger who decided during a pandemic that flying her glam team in complete discretion from New York to Miami is the most important thing to do. And let's not forget Georgia, who overnight got stranded without friends because her gal-pals decided to go after Georgia's estranged husband, and the price to pay was ditching poor Georgia. Follow Guy as he details a collection of thirty-seven stories, each describing another character's problems and dark secrets. The Guy Who Knows doesn't spare his personal opinions and sharp words about anyone. Surely, the residents of the Upper East Side will not be happy with this book placing a mirror in front of them, but life is nothing but a series of choices that we all eventually have to be accountable for.
You might hate it, you might love it, but you won't be able to stay indifferent to it. Read some crazy, and some even downright "dirty" stories about the life of the rich and famous, how friendships are nothing but allies, marriages are just for show, and understand why unlimited funds and a perfect life is just an illusion.
I found this book to be disappointing. One gratuitous story after another, riddled with shallow and recycled clichés.
As a long time Upper East Sider, I feel that these vignettes failed to capture the real women of Madison Avenue in a meaningful way. I liked the idea behind this book, but feel that the execution fell quite short.
I like this book a lot. As an Upper East Sider myself, I find this book hilarious and spot-on. People do care more about what other people think of themselves than their own opinions. The Miami story, I'm pretty sure I know who he's talking about. Yes, I agree it's very Gossip Girl-like but in a different way. And I actually read it on a long plane ride; it's super easy. I recommend it if you like a good laugh and don't take life too seriously
I loved the book, i read it pretty quick during holiday get away. It really is the kind of book you can’t put down. The writer has a unique voice, he is clearly not a professional but he describes a very vivid picture. Hopefully there will be part 2 because i laughed quite a few times
LOVED! It was so funny and different and revelation at the same time! Who knew rich people live the way they do! I thought they were always fabulous and live great life but now I learned they are crazier than the rest of us. I mean women who adopts cows as pets?? LMAO Especially that one woman who shit all over herself?? I mean if this is half true i am dying for her LOL If you like gossip and humor - read the book!!!
Quick read about fictional ladies on the lavish UES - different read and fun since I'm in NYC but super Gossip Girl-y, a little cheesy, and stories became a little repetitive. Also a little depressing to think the shallow, vapid stories could all be real - cheating, lying, addictions, broken families, etc.
