Ever had one of those days…
When you wish you had just stayed home?
The holiday season is in full swing in the small town of Amber Springs, Oregon.

Myrtle Bobkin, an immortal, tea-loving witch, is thrilled to receive an invitation to the social event of the year—an evening at Lockthorne Hall, home of the wealthy and elusive banker, Alfred Tumbrell.

When cynical vampiric history professor, Edgar Gaunt, receives the same letter, he’s less than excited to attend a crowded party on his least favorite holiday, but he begrudgingly agrees to accompany his friend.

When they arrive, they find the hilltop estate to be more of a castle, decorated to the nines for Christmas and boasting everything from a magical menagerie to an ice skating rink brought in just for the occasion.

A magical snow begins to fall —setting the stage for the perfect cozy holiday affair.
But when a body is discovered, in a room locked from the inside—and when the flurry turns into a blizzard and delays the police indefinitely—Edgar and Myrtle are trapped inside the mansion with a killer.

It’ll be up to them, with a little help from their friends, to solve the mystery. Grab a cup of hot cocoa and snuggle up for an intriguing holiday cozy mystery!

I absolutely enjoyed this second book in the Grim and Cozy Mysteries series and look forward to the next book. Edgar who has spent lifetimes as a curmudgeon vampire has discovered that perhaps there’s more to life (such as his is) than preferring his own company to anyone else’s. I love that Myrtle has adopted a fairy child but would like a little background on how that came to be because in the first book it seems her tea shop is her life and there’s no mention of her wishing for a child. And suddenly Oliver Bailey is more than just attracted to Myrtle. Now he’s clearly showing his intentions for a romantic relationship. Reading these books requires an open imagination and a willingness to just believe.

Social event turns deadly during the holidays. Myrtle finds herself in another non witchy situation at the event as a dead body is found.

Trapped with a killer she must find before bodies piled up.

A quaint delightful read.

This is the second book in this fun series. The characters are a mix of magical and mundane who often interact without showing who they are. The storyline of the book was creative and kept my interest throughout. The mystery was complex enough to held my interest but not lose me.

I was late to work finish the book, I couldn’t put it down towards the end. I really liked the mystery in this one! Especially being isolated to one location for one night to solve it, gave the book a little more suspense. Really enjoy the series and the characters, can’t wait to read the next one!

Very enjoyable book.

I love the way the author leads you in different directions as to who the villain is. Then ‘surprise’ it’s totally not the person you are sure ‘done it’
