A quintessential Turtles story. Splinter is a character that doesn't often see action, but he really gets to shine in this one. The book starts off with Shredder breaking the 4th wall and bidding the reader "Evil tidings!" before explaining that he takes great pleasure in destruction, especially when that involves destroying Splinter's hopes and dreams.
The story begins, and the Turtles are unwinding, watching TV, when Master Splinter declares it's time for a fight to the death with his old enemy, Oroku Saki. Just then, the Shredder himself appears on their TV screen revealing he has a mutation-reversing gun, which he demonstrates by reverting Bebop to his human form.
You see, one major difference in this iteration of the Ninja Turtles is that Splinter was not originally a rat, but a human. In the movies and comics, he's a caged pet of the Foot Clan master Hamato Yoshi, but in the cartoon series, he's Yoshi himself. Personally, I think this makes more sense than an ordinary rat being able to imitate karate moves from his cage, but I guess realism doesn't really matter when there are mutant turtles and alien brain creatures involved.
Splinter accompanies the turtles to the Technodrome, which leads to a a fight with an enormous Krang, while Shredder and Splinter face off. Both villains are defeated by having their devices smashed by a flying bo staff, which I thought was kind of lazy. Unfortunately for Splinter, this means he can no longer become human again. Splinter accepts his destiny, but not before vowing to stop Krang and the Shredder for good.
