This was a really fun book. Since reading this book my 9 year old son has actually pulled out my sewing machine and began making his own quilt. This book is very thorough and I enjoyed learning about the history of quilt making, and the time line that went with that. The photographs are large and in color and go along very well with what is written. There is a table of contents, quilting words to know, a glossary with other words to know, where to learn more and an index. There is also an about the author where we find out that not only has the author written more than 200 books but she is also a quilter herself. This is a great book to introduce the idea of quilting to children. While it may prove difficult to do any quilting in a classroom there is still a lot of information that can be used to introduce concepts about teamwork and working together for a common good. The book includes information about quilting quilds, women who come together and each have their own specialty in quilt making. When they work together they accomplish much more, and faster than if they were working on their own. This principle could be used in so many aspects of life.
