Whose side are you on?

War is on the horizon. The resistance is at its weakest. Peter, now forced to be a soldier for the government, tries to feed information to Andre. But when it becomes too dangerous to hide what he’s doing from the watchful eyes of the guards— and Evan— he must decide what he’s willing to risk for the rebellion.

Raegan is fighting hard for healing— physically and emotionally. After losing Peter, her entire world has shifted. But she’s determined now more than ever to get stronger and fight for the truth she believes in. But the battle to heal isn’t easy. She’s faced with a choice; give up, or fight?

A couple of years later, Raegan’s and Peter’s worlds collide once more. As everything is falling apart at the seams around them, they have to decide whose side they’re on. Everything they’ve ever known hangs in the balance.

WOW. WOW. WOW.

The author of this book is my dearest friend, so perhaps my bias is present in writing this review. But I DON'T CARE. This book is a heckin' masterpiece.

I've read this entire trilogy, and it has my heart. Peter and his tough-boy exterior, soft-boy heart. Raegan and her determination to fight, no matter how hard it is for her. Carissa's courage and capacity for leadership. Jackson's much-needed ability to lighten the tension. Spencer's no-nonsense attitude. These characters are a part of me by now. They're so real. I love them.

Here We Stand is special because even more than the past books, it takes the characters I'd previously hated and convinces me to love them. They're flawed, problematic, and dark inside--but I love them, because I understand them. Brooke Riley has woven an incredible story of humanity's dark moments, and the bright triumph that comes with the dawn.

A triumphant finale to the How We Rise series.

Well, the time has come for me to say something about this book. My third book. The final book to my How We Rise Trilogy. I can't believe how far this series has come, from its conception when I was only fifteen, to now, eight years later.

Leaving this world and its characters is a really bittersweet moment. In some ways, I feel like I've outgrown them. In other ways, I feel like I haven't had enough time with them. Maybe someday, I'll return to this world, but this ending is exactly what I needed it to be for now.

I love this book more than words can describe. Each book got me through different eras of my life, which will always be an honor and a blessing.

Now, as always, a content warning.

Content/Trigger Warning

- words such as ass, damn, shit, and hell
- kissing/making out between characters
- sharing of a bed (but that's all they do. no smexy scenes or high spice levels)

- some blood, barely described
- death and grief
- destruction and war

Final Statement

This series has grown with me. As a writer, I've learned so much from my first book to now. There will always be things I wish I had done differently, but I am still proud of how far I've come as a writer and an author.

This series is my first of many. Thank you, to my lovely friends and loyal readers who supported this series and shared every post, every cover reveal, and every announcement. You've made this journey amazing and fun.

And to every new reader, I hope you love this series, too. I hope you find hope and light in it, despite the darkness.

And with that, it is time for me to say... The End

The gripping conclusion to a great trilogy!
I read this awesome book in 2 days. I'm not always a huge fan of the dystopian genre, because it sometimes tends toward really depressing without any hope, but this trilogy is an exception to that. It is gritty and tackles big themes, including mental health and trauma, while maintaining hope and light and friendship throughout the series. I loved how the lens of the story was focused deeply on the characters and the different -and often conflicting- ways they dealt with and confronted the state of the world around them. Peter and Raegan are still the sweetest ever, and I think Jackson may have become my favorite character. Gotta love the snark. ;)
There were a couple twists in this book that I didn't see coming, and overall this was just a fast-paced, compelling finish to this great series!
Can't wait to read whatever you write next, Brooke! <3
