The horror scenes are terrific. The characters are great. The sexy bits are scorching hot. The basic storyline is great. All of the pieces are here for a 5 star read, but the author needed a content editor to get it to that level. The beginning is a little slow. It’s a great introduction to the characters and the horror element, it just needed tightened up a smidge. There is a secondary danger that felt a bit unnecessary. It’s been a while since I watched Sweeney Todd, so maybe that’s where the side plot came from, but I felt the story would have been better without it. Not that it was bad, it just pulled the focus off the main plot and the romance a bit. The biggest issue I had, though, was that late in the story the reader was asked to suspend disbelief a little too much. We were told how meticulous and skilled Kit and Marley were, then asked to believe they had missed some huge flags waving in their faces. It undermined the characterization (which was otherwise on point) and made the previous events seem less believable. These issues, though, couldn’t take too much from my enjoyment of the story. This was a solid 4 stars for me and I am interested in reading more from the author and in reading more of the multi-author series.
