Watch hill is a small sea town that only a few know about, celebrities love to escape too and full of townspeople that protect their own. Years after her moms death, Emelia is still trying to come to terms with the heavy loss. She recently has made peace with the fact that she will always be alone, with no one to love her. Because everyone she loves … leaves. Emelia goes about her days in her small town being the librarian and events planner. Being what anyone needs her to be, and that is as close as she allows herself to get to anyone anymore. Summer is about to kickoff off this shoreline and a new European celebrity is in town. A race car driver none the less, who finds himself immediately infatuated with Emelia. He is convinced fate has brought them together. Emelia however, is not looking for a summer love especially with the one and only playboy Lucas Stratton. Lucas has only ever dreamed of being at the top of his career; but now he finds his heart beating for something and someone else. Will Emelia let her guard down to fall in love with the persistent Lucas? Or will she continue to believe he is like everyone else who has left her? Knowing another loss, and another heartbreak will be Emelia’s complete un-doing.
First off, I love how it’s based in RI! I’m a little biased bc I’m born and raised in RI! The story it self was lovely! I really liked Lucas’s character growth to a more loving person instead of the cocky athlete we first meet! I liked them as a couple but felt like the flow of the story was a bit off… I don’t like how it ended on a cliffhanger and Lucas’s agent needs his butt kicked for taking his phone(might cost him his relationship with Emilia) and alerting the press of their relationship (super jerky if him)… this book is also super sad… having gone through the hospice experience with my dad, I could relate to her heartache with that loss! The chapter that she brings her mom to hospice was difficult to read bc I felt like I was re-living my own experience-especially when talking about the death rattles (a sound you don’t ever forget)..so my rating is like a 3.75 mainly bc I felt the flow of the story was off! Definitely want to read the 2nd though to see what happens with Lucas and Emilia!

The book pulls at your heart strings! You see takes on how un expected love is and how you can run into your person where you least expect it. It shows your family is who you make it and how your bonds can grow stronger through hardship! Loved the book and I would definitely recommend!
"I was fine before he was pushed into my life, and I need to make sure I am fine when he is gone." Watch Hill is a small sea town that only a few know about, celebrities love to escape to it and its full of townspeople that protect their own. Years after her mother's death, Emelia is still trying to come to terms with the loss. She recently has made peace with the fact she will always be alone, with no one to love her. Because everyone she loves... leaves. Emelia goes about her days as a librarian and event planner. Summer is about to kick off and a new European celebrity is in town. A race car driver who finds himself immediately infatuated with Emelia. He is convinced fate has brought them together. Emelia, however, is not looking for a summer love... especially with the playboy Lucas Stratton. Okay so this book was a difficult read. It was hard to understand and follow most of the time. Emelia is struggling with the grief of losing her mother on top of some other grief and doesn't really appear to have any coping skills whatsoever to handle this. The introduction of both characters and most of their presented personality throughout the book was hard to like. I struggled with the writing because it was full of typos and just sentences that didn't make sense. I have never heard a human talk the way that these characters talked. I honestly struggled to finish this book, if I wasn't determined to finish off the month with a completed book I don't think I would have read this one. The connection between both characters felt forced and honestly didn't make much sense. We just jump to romantic feelings without any build up or tension and it was not done well in my opinion. Like at one point his solution to waking her up from a nightmare is to make a move on her... excuse me??!! I think that the book could have had potential if it had been edited or even read by outsiders before being published. I think one of my biggest issues with this book was that she kept calling herself broken and he was saying how he wanted to fix her... it gave me the ick. Even more so was the annoyance that he wanted to be with her but also keep her secret. It felt like things just drug on for most of the book and then we sped through some plot at the end. It also ends on a cliffhanger, sort of, but I have no desire to read that one.
Caught in a storm is a small town romance, with a dash of enemies to lovers.

Alright, so after reading that you're intrigued, right? So was I! It's why I signed up to read this as a part of a book tour, and was so excited for my first ever physical book tour request. However...
The book is lacking. The structure of the paragraphs is rough at best, the story itself wasn't gripping like I thought it might be, and I caught myself being easily distracted by anything other than this book. The writing isn't the best, but with some reworking it could be better. At least a three or four star book.
I did try to read it... about three separate times, but I did end up DNFing it before I really got anywhere.
I know this is an indie author, who's self published, so I did give them the benefit of the doubt but I just really didn't like this book.
- Also, this had nothing to do with my rating, I really dislike comic sans. It makes the book feel like a young adult/teen book when it's not.
Hands down a five star recommended read if you love romance!
This one will pull at your heartstrings a good bit with ongoing trauma ever present for our leading lady. Bless her. But she has a great support in her best friend, her community, and her sister, and even better she has the most amazing little furry pup best friend who we all just fall right in love with. He is a whole vibe and I love him!! 🐾
Ali is a new up and coming best selling author….that I am claiming for her. 🥰 She writes with such passion and personality it’s like her characters are real people…perhaps they are!
With some minor grammar errors and sentence structures yet none of that took away from the feelings you get…that raw emotion like you know them and they are your people.
I’m not a fan of racing but Ali was able to keep my interest even in those scenes, like our leading lady I was there for ride. Pun intended 😬 speaking of rides….ummm there is def some spice in this read. These 2 have some 🔥 between them. Yum! A few fade to black scenes but that’s ok because several were not!
Emelia and Lucas are just adorable together and how quickly he loves her thru all her pain and sees her for the best version of herself, please Lucas share that ability with all those dating. Lol!
I absolutely love Emelia’s job as the island librarian and event planner. 😉 and this sweet little coastal town is on my road trip bucket list. Just felt like I was right there in the community as I was reading. 🌊
I cannot believe how this ended in such a way that I’m gonna be making up all kinds of ‘what happens next’ scenarios. It’s already been making me crazy the last 24 hours since finishing. O the agony. Book 2. I’m ready!
It was a quick read that really kept me focused and feeling all the things.
That is what a greater writer does! Thank you for sharing this story with us!
My thoughts: This book is a cute small town romance about the mean character Emelia is try to learn how to trust and love all over again after going through so much heartbreak. Lucas who has his whole career ahead of him and has the image of a playboy guy but reading this story through out the book you learn how mature Lucas really is. Love the story between just hate the cliffhanger I was left on. Also wish we got to see more of the relationship outside of small town but maybe book 2 will give us more.

My thoughts: This book has such a sweet small town setting, you know i love the everyone being in everyones business vibe! Reading about the car racing tournaments was a new one for me and I really enjoyed the change in pace! The characters are hard not to love, Especially the chocolate lab. This book covered many of lifes hard storms it throws at us in such a perfect way, as well as dealing with trials from the past. The writing style is great and I'm exciting to read more about these characters!! Thank you for the complimentary copy, this is a gorgeous physical copy!!

Thoughts💭: I throughly enjoyed this book, this book was my second book by Ali Marie - and it had my hooked from the first to the last page! Please make yourself aware of the triggers before diving into this divine book. I’m hoping there will be a book number 2?!?!
I received a free copy of this novel. This is my honest opinion and is written voluntarily. Thank you @KatieandBreyPA for sending me a free copy of your book for an honest review.
This is my second book by the up-and-coming author Ali Marie. I just finished Heart Like a Truck last week and jumped right into this one. I love her writing style and how I can be drawn into the story, which easily flows.
I am the first one to say I love me a small-town love story, and this one takes place in Rhode Island, which I don’t believe I’ve seen before. The book focuses on the main characters of Emelia and Lucas. Immediately, we are introduced to Emelia at the worst time of her life, the death of her mom. It sets you up to understand the trauma and the lack of trust she has for people. Emelia also works as the town’s librarian and has an adorable dog named Winston. Lucas is a hot-shot race car driver and playboy who is recovering from an injury in her quiet small town. It just so happens that there is a plumbing issue in his place, and Emelia is asked to take in a boarder as she has in the past, not knowing it's Lucas, whom she just met with a horrible first impression.
The book is told from a dual point of view, which I enjoy. I loved the banter between the two of them. It is one of my favorite things about Ali’s writing. Lucas trying to tear down the walls that Emelia has built to protect herself from getting hurt again, pulls at my heart. So relatable. Will he win her heart? Will she trust him? Will she find love again? I’m not going to tell you! I look forward to reading book two.
Thank you to Katie and Brey PA and Ali Marie for providing me with a physical copy of Caught in A Storm in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Such a lovely small town story. I love the choice of RI as I hardly ever seen books take place there. Right off the bat we're hit with Emelia's trauma and it sets her path of recovering. We learn that until Emelia can shake the fear of being left alone she'll never trust anyone who enters her life. That's until Emelia and Winston have their first go around with the overly dressed angry man. Finding out how they are connected beyond what's first put in front of us gives it a nice twist even if he is the 'Devil'.
Emelia is such a sweet heart but with the past trauma and with present things unfolding we find that she has many layers to break through. Lucas is not what I expected after he is first introduced in the book. I don't think I would classify this one as a insta-love connection....it's more of a masked loved connection that has to be exposed before it's accepted. “This is life. Life is not fair, but I do not think it is meant to be this cruel either.” This quote stood out to me in this book and I love it. It wraps up what this book represents before fates are accepted. I can't wait to see what the next book holds for Lucas and Emelia.
Lucas Stratton is a race car driver that needs some recovery time after an injury. His publicist dumps him in Watch Hill. A small town where nobody cares about who he is. He is just Lucas in this small town. Emelia is the town’s librarian. Her and her dog, Winston, enjoy this town. The town loves Emelia. Emelia has had a lot of loss in her life and is hesitant to let anyone in. Lucas is dumped into her lap needing a place to live. Things grow from there. Lucas feels the instant draw to Emelia. Emelia does to but is willing to fight it tooth and nail. She cannot let anyone else in and get hurt by them leaving. Everybody leaves, right?
Luca and Emelia figure out that they met over a year ago in London. Lucas is not going to let this opportunity slip through his hands again. Emelia refuses to be broken again so she fights Lucas. Her best friend, Bec, tells her to have fun and enjoy being in the moment. Emelia gives that a try but is unable to not open her heart to Lucas.
Thankfully this is a start of a series/duet. Readers will definitely want more after reading this book. Emelia is every woman that has been through heartache and loss. Lucas is every woman's dream man. Can these two make it work?
Emelia has been dealing with a lot of loss recently, starting with the death of her mother. She has come to terms with the fact that everyone leaves and she will always be alone.
When a celebrity needs a place to stay, Emelia is happy to oblige, sort of. Lucas has only ever wanted to be a race car driver, but will that change?
Will Emelia be able to accept love or will she build a wall expecting Lucas to leave like everyone else?
I am not sure what I expected with this book, but this was not it, in a neutral way. I thought this would be more of a forced proximity trope due to a storm. While there is forced proximity, it's only temporary. There is also the second chance meeting trope.
There is a small amount of spice, but the actual s3x is cut to black.
The ending is somewhat abrupt. There's a second book, and while I would read it to finish out their story, I feel like this book ended in an odd spot.
I did enjoy reading this one and it was a fairly quick read.
I did enjoy the whole plot line to the book and loved how they incorporated sports into it, the romance was one of those that you always question how they ended up together because they are so different. I did feel that the plot line was a little rushed and that some of the things that were brought up were brought up too early and could have been incorporated into the store line a bit differently. I do understand why those factors were important as to the character growth and how they ended up where they ended up. I do wish that we could have explored more on how they meet the first time, but in truth it did not matter much; but it did confuse me. Had me questioning if I missed something at the beginning of the book. I will say that while the first half of the book did not fully have my attention it was the second half that really had me wanting to keep reading. This book does end on a huge cliffhanger so expect to be like “wait, what.”

The overall story idea was great and what captured my attention in the book. I did feel that overall the story was okay and some of it had to do with the flow of the story not working for me whether the story moved at a slower pace at a moment where it could have gone another way and other times it was rushed and leaving the reader confused. I did have to stop reading because of some of the heartbreaking moments there were some heartbreaking moments for sure which I thought the author should feel good about because it was heartbreakingly beautiful the pain, loneliness, and heartbreak that Emelia had. The author did a pretty good job of developing the characters, especially Lucas which I enjoyed because he was kinda a jerk lol. I have to know what happens to their HEA.
Emelia is still trying to come to terms with her mom's death. Even though it's been a while it still wears on her, and she's never really dealt with it. Emelia has also determined she will always be alone with no one to love her, or to love in return. Everyone she has ever loved or cared about has left her. She occupies her time by dedicating her time to event planning and serving as the local librarian.
Lucas Stratton is new to town. He's a race car driver who has always dreamt of being on top. His career is all that really matters to him. But that all changes when he meets Emelia. Will Emelia be able to let down her guard and walls for Lucas, or will she remain the way that she is, too scared to love again. This small-town romance is really cute. I loved the characters, especially the dog. I enjoyed this book a lot, and I would definitely recommend it.
Omg Ali did it again made me care for characters. The things that Emelia has gone through is so heart breaking. Lucas is amazing with her by letting her take their relationship and cares for her so much. Omg the want they have for each other is so good. This book is so well written and such a fast read. Its may fav part that Emelia loves to read romance novels and quotes them. Also love that she's a librarian. The small town vibe is so good and well written. Omg I was so mad at Emelia she was fighting with Lucas and his love for her. I love the quote at the end of each chapter that a different way to do quotes in a book. I love the race care and librarian them in this book. I have never read a book with this theme before. I love how Lucas thinks of her past and is very thoughtful about it. The spicy is written tasteful. You get to see how they navigate Lucas's crazy life as a racer.

Read this as an ARC and I enjoyed the story. Some of it was triggering as there is the death of a parent and the loss of a baby. However, the story was good.
Overcoming painful memories and a traumatic past, Emelia keeps her guard up to love knowing that everyone just leaves. It's just part of her life. Then she meets the famous raceway driver, Lucas Stratton, who is determined to prove to her his love for her and that he will never leave her. However, during one of the hardest moments of her life can she trust that love?
I loved how Emelia was written in a way that she was vulnerable and owned that vulnerability but still persevered. She was still independent and very set in her ways. But she also learns to trust and lean on others during difficult moments in her life.

Ali Marie does it again! I cannot sing enough praises for her writing. This book sucked me in and didn’t let go. Emelia is a strong woman who has been through so much sadness in her life she just needs things to work out for her for once. She is so relatable as she has struggled through parent loss, child loss and everyone just all around leaving her. Lucas reformed playboy who just wants to make her smile again. They have a lot to work through but I am excited to see how this plays out. Caught in a Storm grabbed me by the heart strings and is not letting go.
OMG! I cannot with this book, I am so in love! Can I get book 2 right now?!?!? The ending was just OMFG! Caught in a Storm, is a fantastic romance novel between Emelia and Lucas, A small-town librarian and a famous racecar driver. Although Emelia has been dealt a bad hand in life, we watch her overcome all of the pain she has been through and explain her trauma. This story shows how “being broken” or having past trauma does not keep you from finding love and that the right person will love you regardless of the past. Lucas on the other hand seems to have had a pretty easy life but he will do anything to build Emelia up and see her smile while he stays at her house due to a burst pipe and mischievous old ladies.
A great small town romance. Right in the book’s opening we are hit with trauma with Emelia. This trauma however, begins to lead her onto the path of recovery. She has so many things to get past though. I enjoy Lucas’s character because he quickly becomes to adore her in spite of her pain that she holds. This book definitely gave me all the feels and was a tearjerker. I can’t wait to see what is in store for Lucas and Emelia in the next book. I want to see their HEA play out.
Going into this read I was already familiar with Ali Marie’s writing. I’ve read all her book the last couple months.
This book was a lot different than her other books. Not only was it a love story between Emelia and Lucas. It was a healing journey as well for Emelia. She’s gone through so much loss and loneliness. She doesn’t think she deserves an ounce of happiness that Lucas brings her. This was so much more than falling in love but it’s learning to have an understanding that even if you don’t think you deserve all the good things that happen to you. They will still happen if they are meant to. Happy reading!
Wow, what a read. This book was an amazing read that from the moment that I started reading I was hooked and could not get enough of it. It moves along at a pace that is perfect for the flow of the story. The characters are so real that you feel like you know them and no matter what happens you want to be there for them, you cant help but love them. This book is a must read, there is no doubt about it. It needs to be on your TBR list.
I have read 3 of Ali Marie's books and this is the 4th. I find her books are emotional and I love them all. She is an excellent writer. I love Heart Like A Truck and Heart Like Mine and both of those books are to my liking. I admire all those who write and publish books. It's a tough world out there to do so and she is doing it. Yes, this book is a little slow to start. Sometimes having patience is worth the wait. Her books are worth it
Meet cute, small town romance. It ends on a cliffhanger.
I liked the story, Lucas is a gem, and Emilia annoyed me. Life's been hard on Emilia, and when she keeps an open mind, things between them are good. What I didn't like is that Emilia seemed to jump on every opportunity to reinforce her own ideas on how Lucas would definitely fail her.
This was a smooth read. I was rooting for Lucus from the beginning. I kept thinking something was going to happen. When was the show going to drop? Ughhh I did not think it would end this way. But I am excited to hear there will be a party 2!!! First time reading a novel by Ali Marie and this was definitely not be my last !
This was a great introduction to this book that looks to be a duet. Super cute but a little angsty. I could feel the stress the two main characters had trying to navigate their feelings and insecurities. I felt bad for Emilia. It seems like she just can’t catch a break but love how it has made her so strong. The spice level is about a two.
I loved this book but definitely not a fan of the ending! I’m going crazy not knowing what happened!! It does pull at your heart strings so many emotional parts in this book that take you on a roller coaster. Definitely don’t judge this book by its cover not what I was expecting but it’s definitely worth the read. Just be ready to hurt by the ending of it!!
I’m pretty positive I’ve read this authors books previously … well to say the least this would be my least favorite. I liked the two main characters. Think too much reminiscing in the book maybe, and then for it to end in a cliff hanger, nope not going to the 2nd book. In my opinion 3⭐️ might be a bit much.
This book was fast paced and takes you on an emotional journey, and ends on a hell of a cliffhanger! I am looking so forward to the next book in this duet. I cannot wait to see what is going to happen next!
Wow! I finished this story in one day. If you like a small town romance with some spice, grief and love this story is for you. This story has character development and I LOVED the plot. I can’t wait to read book two!
