Book Five of the Sentinals Series, Sentinals Banished is set seventeen years after the fourth book, Sentinals Across Time.

Sentinal Birlerion has watched from the shadows for so long he doesn't know how to stop. Always there when the Lady’s Captain needed him. He did what was necessary to keep those he loved from harm.

When the king banishes the Lady’s Captain, Jerrol Haven, from Vespiri and disbands the Sentinal guard, the Sentinals are at a loss, some bitter, some eager to retire, all angry at the king's decision.

Birlerion moves to Old Vespers to watch over Jerrol's daughter as she begins her journey to become a King's Ranger.

Old Vespers is in turmoil, the King unpredictable, and the Sentinals are unwelcome. Unexplained deaths are occurring, and bodies begin to appear in the city streets. As Birlerion continues his search for the place he can call home, he has to step out of the shadows as he is drawn into a tangled web of deceit and lies. He must hunt down those responsible before he loses anyone else.

I received an ARC of this book. I read all other books in order very quickly leading up to this instalment and I have to say it was my favourite yet.
Excellent character growth in old favourites. New characters introduced and developed perfectly.
This book is amazing and I hope this series has many more to come!

Sentinals Banished by Helen Garraway

Jerrol and the Sentinals have been Banished from Vespers by King Anders, the son of the late King Benedict. Jerrol and Taelia decide to visit their daughter Magareth whilst Birlerion becomes involved in an investigation in Vespers. A new powerful drug has appeared there and the King seems to be in favour. Birlerion fears its also linked to the disappearances of several young boys. The residents seem to think the Sentinals may be behind the disappearances and Birlerion has to work hard to gain their trust whilst trying to get to bottom of what is happening. Leyarille, the daughter of Jerrol and Jared son of Jennery join the ranger academy and start to help Birlerion.

I think this my be my new favourite in the series. I loved how the story developed. It went from being homey, about family, and the developments with our favourite characters, to betrayal with the Sentianls being treated awfully by the King, to redemption and then a very dark turn. I loved how the families have developed and grown, how some of the Sentinals have found love, acceptance and homes when they were lost for so long. What I love about the characters that Helen had created is that she has written them so well you can't help but become invested in their stories.

Birlerion will always be my favourite and I'm so glad the main parts of the story focused in on him. I think where his part in the story ended in this book was an interesting one but heartbreaking as well and I can't wait to see where it goes in the next (and last) part of the series.

This series has just grown so much over time and I love the world of Remargaren. So many beautifully described places and so many well loved characters. I find Vespers enchanting but I would love to live on one of the islands, they just seem so relaxing. I don't want the story to end with the next one, but I am looking forward to reading thr prequels as well.

I was sent this book and I have provided my honest review.

Sentinals Banished

An outstanding read!

In this 5th book of the Sentinals Series, Helen Garraway takes us forward in time around twenty years. After the death of King Benedict his son Anders assumes power to disastrous consequences. Someone is leading him astray, causing the country of Remargaren to fall prey to others that would take over the realm, to suit their own ends.

Sentinals Banished is a lot darker that the other 4, and touches on certain sensitive subjects, which Helen treats with both empathy and compassion. We see new Sentinals being made, as well as others that are lost, but as before it is the final battle that determines if Remargaren survives.

By writing this series Helen Garraway has put a new meaning to the word ‘Fantasy’. Creating a whole world, and filling it with the most engaging and charismatic of characters. From page one you are drawn into this world once more, as new characters emerge, that are just as endearing as the old, but central to the story is, Birlerion, who, for me, is one of the most beloved of Sentinals. He has a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ a quiet quality that engages you totally when you read about him. Throughout, there are moments that will make you smile, while others will keep you reading avidly, as you fight the battles with them, so totally immersing you in the story, that you become one with them.

This book has everything, there is love, hate, danger and also an element of regret, but above all this, there is the loyalty that surrounds them, that binds them together, as they will do anything to save one another and their world.

Sentinals Banished is one of the best within the series, I wanted more when it finished, and for me comes a very close 2nd to ‘Sentinals Justice,’ which was a brilliant book. To say I highly recommend it is an understatement!

Helen you have triumphed once more!!

The Sentinals series has come so far and I've been hooked since the first book. After the first few books I thought we knew most everything about Jerrold and Birlerion but I was wrong! You'll see what I mean...
Honestly if you've enjoyed the earlier parts of the series I'm certain that "Banished" will be one of your favourites.

I'm leaving my honest review based on the ARC I received.

Delightful series!!

I have loved every single book in this series. In fact I devoured them, one after the other without stopping 🤗. I hesitated on this one as it was a bit of a change up. But, to my delight it was super!!! These are characters that you get easily attached to and immersed in! Bravo

This book has characters you will become invested in - and their story will have you tied in. This book ends and the reader is left thinking that the end came too soon, that the story still has so much more to it. I suppose that is what makes a good series.

Kings are only human

The king is dead and his son in now in charge. He is young and no match for the woman and her drugs. He very nearly caused the downfall of their kingdom. Can the sentinels help him see what is going on?

High adventure. A love story. Intrigue. Characters we have grown to care about and a style that has included page turning elements. This is the best one written. Please don't start here or you won't get it.

Banished but not forgotten.

This story took on a dark twist of drugs and abuse. But there was so much hope in the end.

I am disappointed...that I finished all of the Sentinal books! Now I have no more of them to read. You can rest assured that I will someday re-read them. This final book was "probably" my favorite but I am not positive of that. Anyway, Helen Garraway, thank you very much for entertaining me for a considerable length of time. Many emotions visited with your books. Thank You!

The king is off his path and banishes the sentinels. He even takes the watch from Jerrol. Young lads are going missind or turn up dead and the king is oblivious under the influence of drugs. How can the sentinels help? The next generation starts their carrier with the rangers, are they able to help? A breathtaking and suspense story with lots of dangerous situations and the help of friends. It was difficult to put the book down.
